Department of Atatürk's Principles and the History of the Turkish Revolution

The primary purpose of the department is to conduct the teaching of Atatürk's Principles and the History of the Turkish Revolution, which is one of the compulsory common courses taught in the first year of our university’s programs, as per Paragraph (i) of Article 5 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547. In this respect, we aim to contribute to the raising up of our students as good citizens who contibute to the country in accordance with the Ataturkist System of Thought and Atatürk's Principles and Reforms. Our department aims to instill national and moral values to the Turkish youth through the lessons derived from our recent history and to raise a generation faithful to Atatürk's principles and reforms.

 

The overall aim of the course of Atatürk's Principles and the History of the Turkish Revolution is to instill national and moral values in the Turkish youth through the lessons derived from our recent history, to inform university students on threats posed to the geography of Turkey and the Turkish homeland, and to raise a generation faithful to Atatürk's Principles and Reforms.

Atatürk's Principles and the History of the Turkish Revolution is a course which is taught in all Turkish universities today, and it has been taught since the early years of the Republic with the directive given by Atatürk himself. It was accepted as a compulsory course to be taught in all Higher Education Institutions during the whole education period as per Articles 4 and 5 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 dated November 6, 1981. All kinds of obligations related to this course were undertaken by the Department of Ataturk's Principles and the History of the Turkish Revolution, which was established in January 2014.

 

The aim of the course of Atatürk's Principles and the History of the Turkish Revolution is to raise new generations who will embrace and develop the spirit and goals of the Turkish Revolution. In this context, the following can be said for the goal and aims of the course.
 

a) To provide accurate information about conditions created by the National Struggle for Independence, the stages of the Turkish National Struggle, the History of the Turkish Republic, Atatürk's Principles and Reforms, as well as the Ataturkist System of Thought.

b) To ensure an accurate understanding of Atatürk's Principles and Reforms and to create awareness of the protection of these values, and to defend and improve these reforms and principles among young people.

c) To develop the ability to accurately perceive and make decisions regarding positive and negative events that might arise in relation to the Turkish nation and country.

d) To be knowledgeable and well-informed on the issues directly related to the recent past and the future of the Turkish nation, to teach the new generations that the Turkish Republic is an indivisible integrity with its State, Nation and Country, and to ensure the integration of Turkish youth into this ideal.

e) To provide accurate information about the threats to the Turkish Republic, Atatürk's Principles and Reforms, and the Ataturkist thought, and to enlighten the Turkish youth and to make them enlightening individuals.

Mission of the Department of Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution:

Is to ensure our students' awareness about recent history; and aim to teach Ataturk's principles and dynamics related to the establishment process of the Revolution and the Republic of Turkey.

Vision of the Department of Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution:

To make the Ataturk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution understandable; to increase the interest of the students from different departments and to be a respectable department.

The Department of Atatürk's Principles and the History of the Turkish Revolution at Istanbul Kültür University was established on October 2, 2013.

The Distance Learning courses of Atatürk's Principles and the History of the Turkish Revolution I and II are carried out at the faculties and vocatioanal schools of our university under the supervision of the department in accordance with the principles determined by the Council of Higher Education. 

The intellectual foundations of the Turkish revolution, the importance and the meaning of Atatürk's Principles and Reforms are conveyed to students on the grounds of the importance of history, the necessity of learning our history and the guidance of history in solving the problems faced. 

The department prioritizes scientific events and activities.
