PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AT MODOKO FOR ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS

The first phase of the protocol signed with MODOKO, as one of the projects planned by the Istanbul Kültür University Rectorate to provide qualified workforce, was carried out with the Faculty of Architecture. Along with compulsory and optional internship opportunities for the students of the Department of Architecture and the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design; the project, which provides students with the opportunity to redesign the MODOKO Campus with a competition and thus aims to gain hands-on field experience, also offers the opportunity to receive consultancy from professional experts.

Within the framework of the cooperation with MODOKO, new projects will be implemented with the Faculty of Law and Engineering Faculty of our University to meet the sectoral need for qualified graduates in our country. In addition, studies will be carried out within the framework of University-Industry Cooperation regarding the provision of qualified intermediate staff and qualified service needed in the fields of e-commerce, foreign trade and logistics.

To the students of Istanbul Kültür University; the first phase of the cooperation protocol, which offers observation, research, consultancy and internship opportunities in companies in MODOKO, was signed with the Faculty of Architecture.

At the ceremony, as the architect of the project, Istanbul Kültür University Rector and Rector's Advisor Asst. Prof. Elif ALTINOK CALIŞKAN and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture of the University Prof. Dr. Neslihan DOSTOĞLU, the academic staff of the Department of Architecture, Corporate Communications Officers, MODOKO Chairman of the Board Koray CALIŞKAN and the Members of the Board of Directors were present.

It is aimed to contribute to the qualified workforce trained in this field in our country in the medium and long term with the internship protocol, which provides the students of the Department of Architecture and the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design with the opportunity to develop and practice their theoretical knowledge with the consultants who steer the furniture industry in MODOKO.

Noting that field experience in undergraduate education is very valuable for every student, said the following about the University and MODOKO internship cooperation: “Our protocol is a very important start for the professional experience of our students who have compulsory and optional internships. It is very important for our students to develop their professional practices without any difficulties in Architecture education, where practice is predominant. In addition, the changing business models during the pandemic period affected all university youth seeking internships. Therefore, it is very important for us to know that within the framework of our cooperation with MODOKO, our Architecture students will not have difficulties in practicing and receiving professional mentorship.”

Expressing that the protocol also offers professional networking opportunities, Rector continued her words as follows: “We signed the first phase with our Faculty of Architecture. As of 2021-2022, we signed to improve the field experiences of our Faculty of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and Architecture Departments. The awareness of the entire MODOKO management, especially MODOKO Chairman of the Board Koray Calışkan, on the training of qualified workforce in the field is the most important factor in the implementation of this protocol.”

Noting that the second phase of the protocol will be signed with the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Engineering, Rector  said the following regarding the MODOKO Space Design Competition, which will be held within the scope of internship cooperation:

“The competition is open to the students of the Department of Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design of our university. As MODOKO President Koray CALIŞKAN especially emphasized, the fact that newly graduated architects and interior architects employed do not know the raw material and cannot design according to this raw material is a shortcoming in the sector, and for this reason, such projects for implementation should be supported and our youth should be raised well. Our aim is to support the constructive competition between the cultured architects and interior architects of the future with graduates who are well-versed in practice and who are trained in accordance with the sectoral needs. Our students will compete with their projects that will holistically redesign the entire space, including the entrance doors of the MODOKO furniture center. We are already excited to see the signature of our Kültür Students at MODOKO.”
