IKU PUBLISHING HOUSE CONTINUES TO BRING SELECTIONS FROM THE WORLDWIDE KNOWN “A VERY SHORT INTRODUCTIONS” SERIES INTO TURKISH

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Publishing House continues to bring selections from Oxford University Press's world-famous series "A Very Short Introductions" into Turkish. The number of books published in Turkish from the series reached 16 with "French Revolution", "Ancient Warfare", "Modern Art" and "Hegel" from the "A Very Short Introductions" series, which offers introductory information to students, educators and enthusiasts.

“The French Revolution: A Very Short Introduction” written by Bristol University retired Professor of History and senior researcher William Doyle, took its place on the shelves with the translation of H. Hande Orhon Özdağ. The book, which deals with the historical process leading to the French Revolution, the events in France during the revolutionary period, the sociological transformation created by the climate before and after the revolution, also examines the effects of the revolution on today's world.

 


Ancient Warfare: A Very Short IntroductionAntik Çağ’da Savaş: Çok Kısa Bir Başlangıç

The author of the book "Ancient Warfare: A Very Short Introduction", Professor of Ancient History, Dr. Harry Sidebottom, while presenting all aspects of the subject, from the philosophy that formed the basis of the ancient wars to the development of war strategy and technology, with a new approach, also explores the thoughts of ancient societies on clash, based on the questions "Is a fair war possible?", "Why were the siege wars bloody?" and “What is the role of divine intervention in the outcome of a war?”. Enriching his narrative with examples from the Iliad, Tacitus and the Persian Wars, Harry Sidebottom also presents remarkable anecdotes about the Ancient Age and the war in Antiquity.

Written by Falmouth University art history professor David Cottington and translated into Turkish by Duygu Pınar Kayıhan, “Modern Art: A Very Short Introduction” reveals the confusion regarding the term “modern” and asks, “What does or does not qualify a work of art as modern? ”, “What is the role of art dealers?”, “What does the modern artist try to convey with their works?”. Explaining the conflicts in modern art from Manet's Lunch on the Country to Tracey Emin's My Bed, David Cottington's intriguing work not only gives readers a basic insight into modern art, but also reveals contemporary views.



Hegel: A Very Short Introduction Hegel: Çok Kısa Bir Başlangıç

Peter Singer, the Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, begins by explaining Hegel's life and the world in which he lived in his book "Hegel: A Very Short Introduction", in which Hegel, one of the most important thinkers in the history of philosophy, with its universal effects. And then he examines his philosophy of history and Spirit, his views on the concepts of "society" and "freedom", logic and dialectics, and reveals the fate of Hegel's philosophy today.
