Upcoming Event: Future Of Syria Dialogue Workshop

As part of the EuroMeSCo ENI Project, Global Political Trends Center (GPoT Center) with the support of the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and the EU, both co-funders is organizing a workshop titled ‘Future of Syria’.

The Workshop will bring together academics and practitioners to discuss matters concerning Syria’s future in terms of national reconciliation, state-building, reconstruction and security issues.

It will be held on the 10th October, 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Iran and its Neighbors Conference

Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) of Istanbul Kultur University and the Middle East Programme of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars organized a conference on Iran and Its Neighbors on 15-17 July at Istanbul.

The meeting brought together 13 seasoned experts from Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan as well as the United states and Europe to better comprehend the current dynamics of Iran’s role on the region alongside the responses of major regional states at a time of considerable turbulence.

GPoT and MITVIM’s 7th Policy Dialogue; Towards Israel-Turkey Agreement in Istanbul

Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) and MITVIM- The Israeli Institute for Regional Foreign Policies organized their 7th Policy Dialogue; Towards Israel-Turkey Agreement on 23 June 2016 in Istanbul in cooperation with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Turkey.

Networking Workshop between Turkish and Greek NGOs

GPoT Center’s Prof. Mensur Akgün, Dr. Sylvia Tiryaki, and Muhammed Ammash, participated in the networking workshop held in Athens. The workshop is part of the project entitled ”Migration Network in Europe and Turkey”. 

”Migration Network in Europe and Turkey” is supported under the Civil Society Dialogue Programme. The Programme aims to bring together civil society organisations from Turkey and the EU around common topics, to exchange knowledge and experience, and to build a sustained conversation among them.

EuroMeSCo Annual Conference 2016

Global Political Trends (GPoT) Center Director Mensur Akgün and Deputy Director Sylvia Tiryaki attended the EuroMeSCo 2016 Conference in Brussels as participants and supervisors of the project entitled Future of Syria.

The Conference brought together over 100 experts, researchers, and policy-makers. The main think tank network of politics and security of the Euro-Mediterranean area, coordinated by the IEMed, focused its annual conference on the security challenges in the Mediterranean region ahead of the release of the EU Global Strategy.

20th Round of Heybeliada Talks dedicated to memory of Michael Moran

GPoT Center organised the 20th round of the Heybeliada Talks: Series of Second Track Diplomacy Meetings on Cyprus, on 20 February 2016 in Nicosia’s Buffer Zone, Cyprus. 
The event took place with the participation of approximately 20 civil society activists, opinion makers, academics, journalists, and experts from Turkey, Greece, and both sides of Cyprus.

Roundtable Meeting with US Consul General Charles Hunter: LGBTI Rights & Representation

Global Political Trends (GPoT) Center organized a roundtable meeting with United States Consul General Charles Hunter on February 12, 2016.

Global Political Trends Center (GPoT Center) organized a roundtable meeting with US Consul General Mr. Charles Hunter and Consulate representatives to discuss LGBTI rights and representation. During the event, Istanbul Kültür University students and IR Club members, together with students from Boğaziçi University and Bilgi University discussed LGBTI rights and the problems they face in their daily lives.

Roundtable Meeting with Andros Kyprianou

Global Political Trends (GPoT) Center organized a roundtable meeting with the Secretary-General of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) Mr. Andros Kyprianou on January 22, 2016.

Andros Kyprianou, the leader of one of the key opposition parties AKEL, and an important actor in the negotiations in Cyprus expressed his views on the recent developments on the island.

The event was participated by a approximately 25 journalists, academicians, and opinion makers.

GPoT-CAP Roundtable Meetings

Global Political Trends (GPoT) Center and the Center for American Progress (CAP) co-organized the first meeting of “GPoT-CAP Roundtable Meetings” on January 13, 2016. The meeting discussions centered on the regional security developments and how they could be addressed through improved cooperation.

 

The next meetings are planned to take place in Washington during 2016.

Meeting with Israel MFA's Benjamin Krasna

Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Economic and Asian Affairs, Center for Policy Research, Benjamin Krasna, has conducted a visit to GPoT Center on December 16, 2015. During his visit, Krasna delivered a lecture to Istanbul Kültür University International Relations students on Israeli foreign policy, Turkish-Israeli relations, security and energy in the Middle East.
