GPoT Talks II - January 18, 2019
Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) of Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) organized a meeting on 18 January 2019 regarding Cyprus issue in which TRNC Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Kudret Özersay as guest of honor. This event was held as a roundtable meeting, which was open to a limited number of participants. The addressing speeches of the meeting was made by IKU Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Güzel and the head of Department of International Relations and Head of GPoT Center Prof. Dr. Mensur Akgün.
Throughout the speech of Özersay, he shared his views on the issue in a friendly tone. During the meeting, the academicians, journalists, ambassadors, researchers, civil society representatives, think tank employees and the valuable participants from the Presidency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have presented their contributions.
Mr. Özersay, starting from the historical process of the Cyprus issue, has drawn a realistic framework for the future of the negotiation process and the problem itself. During discussions, he often mentioned that the negotiation process, which has been going on for 50 years is now a frozen dispute; all the variations of many different solutions have been tried and for this reason, there is a need for a new conceptualization today. At this point, he emphasized that a fair share based on cooperation coincides more with the realities of the field and that the Greek and Turkish sectors should start to cooperate without further delay.

İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi (İKÜ) bünyesindeki Küresel Siyasal Eğilimler Birimi (GPoT Center), 18 Ocak 2019 tarihinde düzenlediği Kıbrıs konulu toplantıda KKTC Dışişleri Bakanı ve Başbakan Yardımcısı Prof. Dr. Kudret Özersay’ı onur konuğu olarak ağırladı. Sınırlı sayıdaki katılımcıya açık olan ve bir yuvarlak masa toplantısı şeklinde gerçekleşen toplantı, İKÜ Ataköy kampüsünde yapıldı. Toplantının açılış konuşması İKÜ Rektörü Prof. Dr. Erhan Güzel tarafından yapıldı.
Uluslararası İlişkiler Bölüm Başkanı ve GPoT Birim Başkanı Prof. Dr. Mensur Akgün’ün giriş konuşmasının ardından Sn. Özersay konuya dair görüşlerini samimi bir tonda aktardı. Toplantı süresince toplantıda bulunan akademisyen, gazeteci, emekli büyükelçi, araştırmacı, sivil toplum ve düşünce kuruluşu çalışanları ve Cumhurbaşkanlığı ve Dışişleri Bakanlığı ile ilgili kurumlardan gelen değerli katılımcılar katkılarını sundular.
Sn. Özersay, Kıbrıs sorununun tarihsel sürecinden başlayarak müzakere süreçlerinin ve sorunun geleceğine dair gerçekçi bir çerçeve çizdi. Toplantı ve tartışmalarda sıklıkla 50 yıldır süregelen müzakere sürecinin artık don(durul)muş bir ihtilaf olduğundan, birçok farklı çözüm yolunun tüm varyasyonlarının denendiğinden ve bu sebeple bugün artık yeni bir kavramsallaştırmaya ihtiyaç duyulduğundan bahsetti. Bugün gelinen noktada iş birliğine dayalı adil bir paylaşımın sahanın gerçekleriyle daha fazla örtüştüğünü ve vakit kaybetmeden Rum ve Türk kesiminin iş birliği yapmaya başlaması gerektiği vurguladı.
