İstanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) Head of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver published a message about the IKU agenda, which has changed with the new Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19).

“My Dear Kültür Family,

We have left another week that there are different developments occur in the new normal created by the pandemic. Upon the notifications of YÖK, when we look at the covid19.iku.edu.tr address whose setup was began, and released last week I once again saw what we have accomplished together, what stages we have gone through, and the effort we have made for sustainability in Kültür in the 7 weeks we left behind. This web portal, which contains much more than a report, is actually a memory. It is a corporate archive to see the point we have reached in the process and the added value we have produced. Two sections on the portal which are social service and post-pandemic titles, are actually a reflection of our future plans. I would like to state that your thoughts, suggestions and criticisms will be very valuable at all levels and we expect your contributions for the development of these titles. On this occasion, I would like to thank all my workmates who contributed to the build of  covid19.iku.edu.tr website for their contribution to this platform, which shows our efforts in the process and shows us the big picture.

My Dear Kültür Family,

There are many economic, social and academic issues that we have to overcome and manage. We have to focus on social added value as well as our business processes. In this context, we have gained valuable reflections on behalf of our university last week. Under the coordinatorship of our teacher from the Faculty of Education Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Toran, a research was made with the researchers from the universities of Turkey, England and China. In the research, topics such as the experiences of Turkish and Chinese parents with their children during their stay at home because of the New Corona Disease (COVID - 19) process were discussed. The research was met with interest in the media

The press release, which Assoc. Prof. Nebile Korucu Gümüşoğlu, from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department of International Trade, evaluated the report of the World Labor Organization in the context of youth, women and workforce, was also welcomed especially by economy editors.

Statements made by Assist. Prof. Ender Demir, from our Faculty of Law, that enlightened the public on Labor Rights in the Corona Days, also created an agenda in the media

Our valuable teachers such as our Dean of the Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Rauf Yıldız, Faculty of Health Science Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Department Prof. Dr. Gürhan Çiftçioğlu, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Head of Economics Department Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın, Faculty of Science and Letters Head of the Department of Psychology Prof. Dr. Önder Kavakçı,  in addition to representing Kültür University in the pandemic process with their research and opinions, they also created a social pulse with their knowledge. Also, my workmates  in our academic and administrative staff added value to this process with webinars organized on different topics. Being able to share the cultural accumulation of life is the biggest power that will give us an exit in times of crisis. I would like to thank all my workmates who have devoted our research and social responsibility mission as well as education during the pandemic period.

My Dear Kültür Family,

I would like to repeat the sentence I once again mentioned in my first posts and meetings. In the pandemic process that we face and work with extraordinary effort to deal with, all of us are all on the same ship. We are trying to build a new learning and working future. At the end of this process, not only the normals but also the emotional and mental sets of all of us have changed and transformed. We are much more prepared and aware now. We have experienced a very serious awareness of ourselves, our loved ones, our profession, our health, our hope, and our freedom, and we continue to live on various levels.

At this point, as Kültür, I believe that recalling and reflecting on our values in our constitution, which is the core of our corporate philosophy and character, will also have a constructive effect for our awareness process. Being an individual, gaining social awareness, supporting a solid character, support for participation, respect for thoughts and beliefs, versatility, continuous improvement and development, versatility ... These titles in our Corporate Constitution are also what each of us as human beings have, cares, keep alive and among the eigenvalues that we strives to protect and defend.

Dear Kültür Family,

Life teaches us the value of our loved ones with all its challenging exams. Tomorrow is a very special date in this sense: Mother's Day. I describe motherhood as both the most delicious and the most painful experience in the world, with its sense, anxiety and responsibility. Motherhood, in my worldview, is more than a matter of biologically bringing a creature into the world. That's why I wanted to share with you a message that I've read recently that has impressed me a lot. “She gave birth... She didn't give birth... She cherished what she had... She couldn't even embrace what she had... She even embraced the one she didn't have...The one who is a mother... The mother in conscience... The mother in spirit... All the big-hearted women... Peace be to those who leave. Thanks to the rest.”

I celebrate Mother's day for all big-hearted women, and I would like to extend my heartfelt wishes to the mothers of my colleagues.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the use of masks in the community to mitigate risk and impact in case of epidemic and pandemic. The mask can help reduce the spread of infection in the community by minimizing the excretion of respiratory droplets from individuals who do not know they are infected or that have been infected.

It is important to use a mask to protect against respiratory and droplet-borne infections. Masks are 2 types, surgical masks and respirators.

- People with infectious respiratory infections use it to prevent the spread of the disease to others.
Robust people use to protect themselves from splashes of body fluids.
- The mask is prevented from touching the contaminated fingers / hands to the mouth and nose.

Surgical masks are disposable. They cannot provide a reliable level of protection against suspended infectious particles in the air, as they do not adhere firmly to the wearer's face. While breathing, most potentially contaminated air can pass through the spaces around the mask.

Istanbul Kültür University Communication Arts Department organized an e-interview titled  "How will the Digital World Evolve After COVID-19?" On Tuesday, May 5, 2020, between 15.00-17.00 on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application. Journalist and Academician Dr. Sertaç Dalgülüdere, who participated in the event as a speaker, explained to the students of the Communication Arts Department how to move the digital world from consumption to production and what they need to do to make this process more advantageous today and after COVID-19.

Dalgalidere, who explained the information on “online content writing” which has become an important job opportunity in Turkey in the last 3 years through examples, said that the human resources units are no longer applying for jobs, but ‘examining the footprints of the person on the internet’. Dalgalidere also addressed the topic of “creative thinking and innovation” and informed participants about how to create an online, accurate and qualified content by explaining how to develop niche ideas.

Dalgalidere, who also explained his work and projects on” Internet Data Reporting", also shared information with our students about the general situation of online business opportunities in Turkey and working conditions in agencies. Sertaç Dalgalidere emphasized that young people should take an active role in the digital world that has changed and will continue to change due to the COVID-19 virus, and answered the questions of the students of the Communication Arts department at the end of the event.

Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) Vocational School of Justice held a meeting on Thursday, 7 May to inform students about the distance education process we are in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the Virtual Office of Istanbul Kültür University Psychological Counseling Center, a total of 17 students, including 14 women and 3 men, were given appointments through Adobe Connect virtual classroom application by specialist clinical psychologist Alev Yildirim between May 4-8.

Of the 17 students who made appointments, 14 were interviewed. Due to systemic problems, scheduled interviews with 3 students could not be carried out. 1 staff member and 3 students who were interviewed said they applied because of the problems of despair, unhappiness, reluctance, anxiety and inability to focus due to the epidemic process. The other 10 students applied because of their personal problems.

Psychological counseling support was provided to 1 male staff working in our university within the specified date range.

On Thursday, 7 May 2020, İstanbul Kültür University (İKÜ) Vocational School organized an e-seminar where  Prof. Dr. Burak Saltoğlu who is Professor of Economics at Boğaziçi University and the Founding Partner and General Manager of Risktürk was the speaker.

Prof Dr. Burak Saltoğlu who spoke at the e-seminar titled “Crises and Financial Risk Management”, also provided comprehensive information on risk and crisis management in countries and businesses before and after the COVID-19 process. Saltoğlu who pointed out that some changes as a result of the global crisis, also talked about the macro expectations in the coming period with the lessons learned from past crises from the world and Turkey; macro growth forecasts, unemployment, qualified employment policies, financial risks of companies, habits of business world.

Saltoğlu, who give various examples and make suggestions for economic recovery, noted that 17% of companies in the world have collapsed as a result of global crises, but on the other hand, there are also researches that show that 10% of them have taken the lead in the market shares of competitors. Saltoğlu emphasized the importance of cash management and a good business plan. Stating that the financial side of the real sector is important for structural reforms, Prof. Dr. Burak Saltoğlu also stated that there should be a structure such as real sector regulation and supervisory institution.

He explained that strategic decision-making processes, scenario analysis and game theories were more prominent in such periods. He also emphasized that in the case of a reactive changes in the global trade supply chain, the logistics network in Turkey's geographic location advantage of their connections and the development of the technical infrastructure can turn into an opportunity with the right scaling and good planning.

Saltoğlu who stated that it would be possible to reduce excesses in the use of natural resources and consumption habits, it would be possible to talk about a better livable world with the dissemination of minimalist and sustainability approaches, also mentioned the “degrowth” theory intellectually.

Prof. Dr. Burak Saltoğlu who answered the questions of our students give his last book titled “Financial Risk Management” to 10 students who asked questions.

IKÜSEM Manager Lecturer Zafer Erkoç carried out the first part of the online training titled Looking at Different Measuring Tools and Criteria in Distance Education on Saturday, May 9, 2020.

An e-seminar titled “E-Export and Solutions” was held on May 9, 2020, at 15.00, in cooperation with the International Trade and Finance Department and Kızılkaya Academy. In the event where Kızılkaya Customs Consultancy General Manager Mustafa Sağdıç and UPS Deputy General Manager Cengiz Gazanfer participated as speakers; Comprehensive information about e-export was given and solutions were made to the problems that might arise. The questions of our students, who are also familiar with fast cargo transportation and e-commerce connection, were answered by our guests.

The Economics Department organized an e-seminar titled “Global Financial Trends After Pandemic”, which was attended by Gigant Swiss-Europe & Middle East Director Aysun Karaytuğ as a guest. The event, which took place on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 through the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application, discussed the changes that may occur in the financial markets after the pandemic. Karaytuğ, who made a presentation containing the current situation and corporate predictions, also answered questions from our students.
