The 99th anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic was celebrated with events held at Istanbul Kültür University. The program started with a moment of Silence, singing of the National Anthem, and the wreath offering at Atatürk Memorial on Friday, October 28, at 10, in the front yard of the Ataköy Campus.

The conference titled “Peace at Home, Peace in the World,” in which Educator & Author Assist. Prof. Ali Suat Ürgüplü was the speaker, was held as a part of the ongoing program at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall with the participation of our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, our Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız and Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe, our Secretary-General Assist. Prof. İbrahim Ethem Tarhan, our deans, academic-administrative staff and students.

Istanbul Kültür University Alumni Association (İKÜMED) organized the "Alumni Day & Back to Kültür” event on Sunday, October 23 at our Ataköy campus. Our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney Yüksektepe and Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız, our Secretary-General Assist. Prof. İbrahim Ethem Tarhan, academic-administrative staff and our graduates attended the event, and special gifts were presented to our students celebrating 10th and 20th anniversary of their graduation. One of the popular names of pop music, İrem Derici, who took the stage after the ceremony, gave unforgettable moments to our students and graduates.

Held for the ninth time by the Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, “Mekan2022 / Interior Architecture Students National Graduation Projects Competition”, which provides a chance for inspiring young interior architects to present themselves and their design outlooks through graduation / diploma projects which  prove to be a threshold between the education process and transition to the formation of the professional career path.

The jury, consisting of prominent representatives from the faculty and professional practice, got together on Monday, October 17, 2022 to evaluate the participating projects.  This year, 76 projects from 24 different universities were presented in the competition, in which students of the Departments of Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design in Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus participated with their graduation-diploma projects.

Ahmet Muzaffer Özkök, one of our students at the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, was considered worthy of the second prize in the "MEKAN2022 Interior Architecture Students National Graduation Projects Competition", which was held for the ninth time this year.

In the competition, in addition to the precious academicians such as Prof. Dr. Gülay Usta, Prof. Dr. Banu Manav, Prof. Dr. Osman Arayıcı, Assoc. Prof. Armağan Seçil Melikoğlu Eke, Assoc. Prof. Banu Garip, Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Tuna Ultav, Assoc. Prof. Saadet Aytıs, Assist. Prof. Arzu Erçetin, Assist. Prof. Zeynep Ceylanlı; important designers from the sector such as Seyhan Özdemir, Zeki Koen, Çağlayan Tugal, Hakan Helvacıoğlu, Renda Helin Çilalioğlu Çizer took part as jury members.

Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Prof. Dr. Esra Bostancıoğlu attended the “7th International Project and Construction Management” conference held in Istanbul between 20-22 October 2022 with 3 papers she prepared with her graduate students. Prof. Dr.  Bostancıoğlu attended the conference with the 3 papers prepared by the graduate students of the Department of Architecture  Construction Management and Technology Program; the first being “The Importance of Value Engineering in the Construction Sector” by Bahar Özbaş, the second “Current Concepts Regarding Sustainability Practices and Architectural Education” by Merve Acar, and the third “Assessment of Occupational Health and Safety Problems of Construction Sector in the World and in Turkey” by Şükran Demirkol Kürkçüoğlu. 

Conference was presented through the sub categories of  “project management”, “organization, leadership and strategy”, “construction methods and technology”, “design management”, “economy and financial management”, “real estate development and management”, “digital technologies”, “disasters, risk and resilience”, “clean energy and sustainability”, “health and safety”, “law and dispute resolution”, “professional issues in education and practice”. Prof. Dr. Esra Bostancıoğlu also took part in the Scientific Committee of the conference.

As a part of the “ARC3020 Building Science II” and “MIM3020 Building Science II” courses given in the 2022-2023 Fall Semester in the Department of Architecture, masonry application training was held on Monday, October 17th in cooperation with YTONG. The questions posed by our students, who were involved in the controlled masonry application, were answered by YTONG officials.

The article titled “Prediction of University Students’ Subjective Well-Being with Sleep and Physical Activity Data using Classification Algorithms” written by Res. Assist. Akif Can Kılıç from the Department of Industrial Engineering has been accepted for publication in the “Procedia Computer Science” journal.

“7th International Project and Construction Management” (IPCMC2022,) which is an international congress with wide participation in the field of Project and Construction Management, was held on October 20-22, hosted by Yıldız Technical University.  Assist. Prof. Gamze Alptekin, one of the academicians of the Department of Architecture and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Congress, participated in the congress with the paper titled “Consumer Based Perceived Quality in Real Estate 4.0” presented by the Master Architect Çiğdem Karabağ, in which Alptekin is the thesis supervisor.

Res. Assist. Idil Akkuzu, an instructor from the Faculty of Architecture, was a guest at the “Scientific Research Techniques and Publication Ethics” course given to the master’s degree programs of the Faculty of Architecture of Istanbul University. In the course held on Tuesday, October 25, Res. Assist. Akkuzu, who presented her study titled “A Process from Transience to Permanence: A Qualitative Research on the Socio-Spatial Practices of Silivri Caravan Park Settlers,” conveyed the topics of qualitative research techniques and grounded theory methods to the students.

IKU Technology Transfer Office (TTO) Deputy Director Alpaslan Güzey and Assistant Project Specialist Esra Çelik attended the "Connect4Mobility–Mobility's Net-Zero Transformation" event organized by Fark Labs and EIT Urban Mobility RIS Hub Turkey. In the event held on Tuesday, October 25, municipalities, private companies, start-ups and academics working in the field of urban mobility shared their experiences on issues such as waste management, sustainable environment, carbon emission zero, energy minimization and storage.

The students of the Department of International Trade and Finance and the Department of Entrepreneurship visited Flokser Tekstil / Kimya company under the supervision of Lecturer Meri Taksi Deveciyan. During the trip held on Tuesday, October 25, detailed information was given to our students by the authorities of Flokser Tekstil/Kimya Company, which has been among the first 500 industrial enterprises of Türkiye for years. Our students also saw the production lines on site.

Head of Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Business Development, Industrial and Sectoral Relations Unit (İGESİB) Lecturer Selen Çeliköz, participated in the "Turkey Qualifications Framework International Conference" held in Istanbul The Marmara Taksim Hotel which was also attended by the Minister of Labor and Social Security Prof. Dr. Vedat Bilgin. In the conference, in which Vocational Qualifications Authority (MYK) President Adem Ceylan, Education Sector Manager of EU Delegation to Turkey Prof. Dr. Mustafa Balcı, Member of Higher Education Quality Board Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya, T.C. MEB Vocational Technical Education General Manager Nazan Şener, Consultant Mikaela Kets from the World Bank, Expert Wolfgang Denk from the Austrian NQF National Coordination Point and other valuable speakers participated, an informative discussion was had on topics such as “TQF in the European Context”, “Developments in Europe on Qualifications Framework”, “Turkish Qualifications Framework”, “Education and Labor Market” and “Interaction”.

IKU Technology Transfer Office Deputy Director Alpaslan Güzey, Technology Transfer and University-Industry Cooperation Specialist Yasin Şahin and Project Development Specialist Fatma Ünal visited SAHA Expo Defense and Aviation Fair. During the visit held on Wednesday, October 26, TTO representatives met with various institutions and organizations and held project-based cooperation meetings with Mir Arge and Erpa Technology.

The students of the Program of Medical Documentation and Secretarial completed the “Hospital Information Systems” course at the Family Hospital under the supervision of experts in the field within the scope of “Applied Vocational Education.” We would like to thank Pınar Kavak, the instructor of the course and also the General Director of the Family Hospital, and her team for their support to our students.

In cooperation with IKU Technology Transfer Office (TTO) Inc. and the Federation of Industrial Associations, “Improving Sectoral Entrepreneurship Project Launch” will be held on Monday, October 31, between 9.30-12.00 in Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall. Promotion and entrepreneur presentations about the project will take place at the launch. The project serves the interests of the Small Grant Programme by supporting both academics and students to create new business ideas to transform them as entrepreneurs.

In cooperation with the Design Factory and the Department of New Media and Communication, a workshop titled “Creative Leadership” will be held in order to inform students about human and group relationships, team building, co-creation and leadership. The event, in which Leadership and Team Management Instructor Ejder Aydoğdu will be the speaker, will be held on Monday, October 31, between 10.30-12.30 at IKU Design Factory.

The "You in Me Workshop" will be organized by the Student Life, Career and Alumni Counselling Unit (Kültür Point) to recognize chemical and behavioural addictions, prevent risky behaviours, improve self-confidence by enabling students to know themselves, and increase their empathy and saying “no” skills.
