The 98th anniversary of the proclamation of the republic, which placed ‘’Sovereignty rests unconditionally with the nation’’ rule in the state administration and crowned democracy in Turkey, was celebrated with events held at Istanbul Kültür University.

The program started with the singing of the National Anthem and the laying of a wreath at the Atatürk Monument on Thursday, October 28 at 10:00, taking into account the social distance rules due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the participation of our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal, our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın, our deans, academic-administrative staff and students, as part of the ongoing program at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center, a conference titled "Atatürk Difference" was held with Educator & Author Assist. Prof. Ali Suat Ürgüplü as a speaker.

The program ended with the performance of Orchestra İKÜ.

Awarded the title of "Honorary Doctorate" by Istanbul Kültür University on March 9, 2011; Architect, Restorer & Historian Professor Doğan Kuban, who passed away on September 22, 2021, was commemorated with a ceremony organized by IKU Faculty of Architecture. On Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at 15.00, the commemoration ceremony was held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall with the title of "Understanding Doğan Kuban"; Prof. Dr. Zeynep Ahunbay, Prof. Dr. Zafer Ertürk and Dr. Doğan Hasol attended. The moderator of the ceremony was Prof. Dr. Zeynep Kuban .

He was the Dean of ITU Faculty of Architecture between 1973-76, a member of the Executive Committee of the Ağa Han Architecture Award between 1978-83. Our speakers touched upon the different phases of Prof. Doğan Kuban's life, and emphasized that Kuban will always live with his works.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın met with Dr. Çiğdem Canbay Türkyılmaz, Rector of the Samarkand State Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering. At the meeting held on Monday, October 25, ideas were exchanged on youth and the future.

Within the scope of return measures to our campuses after COVID-19; The lecture halls, classrooms, laboratories, conference halls, places of worship, study rooms and service vehicles in all our campuses were disinfected by the Support Services Department on Saturday, October 23, 2021 with the ULV System.

Organized for the eighth time by the Istanbul Kültür University Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, the "Mekan2021 / Interior Architecture Students National Graduation Projects Competition" aims to present themselves and their design philosophies to young interior architect candidates through graduation / diploma projects that are the threshold between the education process and transition to professional formation. It is an open call in terms of promotion.

The jury of the competition, consisting of prominent representatives from the academic field and professional practice, met on Friday, October 22, 2021 to evaluate the participating projects. This year, 69 projects from 21 different universities participated in the competition, to which students studying in Interior Architecture / Interior Architecture and Environmental Design departments in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus applied with their graduation / diploma projects.

The Success of the Students of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design

As a result of the jury evaluation, Enes Yerekonmaz from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design was awarded the "Honorable Mention" and Zeynep Çiftçioğlu the "Jury Incentive" award. We congratulate our students and wish them continued success.

Gizem Çimen, ÜNİTE Edelman Senior Brand Director, came together with the students of the Department of Communication Arts in the “Seminar V” class. In the lesson held on Tuesday, October 19, communication campaigns and data-based marketing campaigns in the digitalized world were shared with the students of the department.

The Department of Nursing hosted Öznur Sarıahmetoğlu, the Social Support Services Manager of Şişli Municipality, within the scope of the HEM3011 Social Responsibility Projects course. In the event held on Monday, October 25, the subject of "Social Responsibility in Terms of Human Rights and Social Work" was conveyed to the students.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School Radio and TV Technology Program students hosted TRT Ankara Radio Programmer Necile İçmeli at 5B02 RTV Studio on Monday, October 25, 2021. In the event held under the title of “Radio Developing with Technology”; Students were informed on topics such as digitization and traditional radio broadcasting, the historical development process of radio, its current position, digital communication technologies that dominate today, and what the internet offers.

The research article titled "Parodic Destruction of the Hegemonic Building in the Family Institution: Force Majeure", in which the Head of Radio, Television and Cinema Department Perihan Taş Öz analyzed the Swedish director Ruben Östlund's film called Force Majeure in the context of parody and intertextuality, was published in the 2nd issue of ARTS magazine in 2021.

Kültür Point will organize “1st Level Turkish Sign Language Education” in order to raise awareness about the deaf and hearing impaired in the society and to contribute to the personal and professional development of our students. The training, which will be given by the Lecturer Gökben Keleş, will be held on November 1-2, between 15.00-18.00, at the Ataköy campus.

A halloween-themed event will be organized by the Express Science Club to enable members to socialize with each other. The event, which will be held within the framework of the pandemic rules, will be hosted by the Ataköy campus backyard on Monday, November 1 at 18.00.

The Department of Architecture will organize a conference titled “Aesthetics of Climate On Anthropocene Art and Architecture” in order to discuss the concept of Anthropocene and sustainability for doctoral and graduate students. The event, in which Dr. Eray Çaylı, an academician of the London School of Economics, will be the speaker, will be held on Tuesday, November 2, at 13.00 on Microsoft Teams.

IKU Film Workshop will organize an introductory meeting for new and old members to come together and exchange ideas about the annual event program. The event will be held on Tuesday, November 2, at 15.40, at the Erdal İnönü Seminar Hall on the third floor.

Kültür Point will organize a workshop on Tuesday, November 2, at 16.00 at Ataköy Youth Center in order to improve the creative thinking skills of our students.

Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center will host art lovers with the play “Plastik Aşklar” in the first event of this year. The play, in which master theater actress Oya Başar will share the stage with the successful actress Ebru Kural, will begin on Tuesday, November 2 at 19.00. Many different activities will continue to meet with art lovers this year in the art season, where the liberating and fraternal aspect of art is emphasized with the title “Like a Tree”.

IAAF Art and Antique Fair will be held at Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar Congress Center between 3-7 November. The fair, where the VIP opening will be held on November 3, will be open to general visitors on November 4-7. At the fair, selections from the Akıngüç Art Collection of Istanbul Kültür University and the works of the students of the Faculty of Art and Design Department of Art and Cultural Management will also be exhibited.

A conference titled “You Have Never Known Mustafa Kemal Atatürk So Closely” will be held within the scope of “Atatürk Commemoration Events” in cooperation with Atatürk’s Thought Club (ADK) and Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Research and Application Center (ATAMER). The event, where Journalist-Author İpek Çalışlar will be the speaker, will be held on Wednesday, November 3 at 14.00 via CATS.

Kültür Point will organize the 1st Level Turkish Sign Language Education in order to raise awareness about the deaf and hearing impaired in the society and to contribute to the personal and professional development of our students. The training, which will be given by trainer Gökben Keleş, will be held on November 3-4, between 16.30-19.30 in İncirli campus.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Student Life, Career and Alumni Counseling Unit (Kültür Point) will organize the "Philosophy of Mathematics and Thought Workshop" in order to discuss ways to reach the result thinking the unthinkable without questioning. The workshop, in which thoughts from the past to the present and the future will be conveyed by using mathematical symbols, will be held by Trainer Numan Aydınoğlu on Thursday, November 4, between 15.00-18.30, at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

The Industrial Engineering Club will organize a talk titled “Department Introduction” to support the career planning processes of students. The event, where experts in their fields will be speakers, will be held on Thursday, November 4 at 19.00, via ZOOM.

Atatürk's photographs will be exhibited within the scope of "Atatürk Commemoration Events" in cooperation with Atatürk’s Thought Club (ADK) and Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Research and Application Center (ATAMER). The exhibition can be visited in the Foyer Area of ​​Prof. Dr. Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall between 5-12 November (10.00-17.00).

Kültür Point will organize “Diction and Effective Body Language Training” so that participants can speak Turkish effectively and use body language correctly. The training, which will be given by trainer İlknur Güneş, will be held on Friday, November 5, between 15.00-18.30 in Ataköy campus.

IKU Underwater Club will hold a meeting at the Kültür College Alumni Lounge on Friday, November 5, between 18:00 and 21:00, in order to introduce the new members to the club and inform them about the activities.

An interview titled “Digital Communication and Generation Z” will be held in cooperation with the Effective Communication Club, New Media and Communication Club, Artı 1 Down and Autism Awareness Club, New Media and Communication Department, Communication Arts Department and Public Relations and Publicity Program. The event, where Magnet20 Brand Group Leader Elif Zeynep Filizci will be the speaker, will be held on Friday, November 5 at 20:00 on CATS.

Could you briefly describe yourself? Who is Res. Assist. Dr Burcu Ayhan Şahin with 2-3 sentences?

I was born in 1986 in Aydın. After completing my primary and secondary education in Aydın, I graduated from Boğaziçi University, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2009. As of May, I completed my doctoral education. Apart from academic life, I am a married mother of two children. My biggest hobby is knitting knitted toys, one of the healthiest toys, for the little hearts around me, especially my own children.

How did your participation in Kültür Family evolve?

My path with Kültür crossed in 2017 when I was researching universities where I could study for a doctorate. In addition to being close to my wife's workplace and home, it was my first choice due to its experienced, dynamic academic staff and strong laboratory infrastructure. I officially joined the Kültür Family by applying and being accepted to the research assistant cadre that was opened during my doctoral education.
