In cooperation with Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Education, Kültür College and Kültür2000 College, "Teachers' Day Celebration Program" was held on Wednesday, November 24 at 10:00 at our Basın Ekspres campus. The ceremony, which started with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, continued with the opening speeches of our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal, our Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Rauf Yıldız and İKEK Schools Coordinator Biriz Kutoğlu. Orchestra İKÜ, who took the stage after the speeches, had pleasant moments for the participants.

The review article of our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, on the book "Village Institutes" published by İKÜ Publishing House has been published in the supplement of Cumhuriyet Kitap.

Fine Arts Application and Research Center (GSUAM) hosted art lovers with a new theater play in the second event of the season. The play "Leonce ile Lena", featuring the valuable actors of Tiyatro Park, Barbaros Ergün, Emre Erilmez, Onur Doğan, Özlem Yıldız, İlayda Uyar and Merve Karabulut, was staged at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center on Thursday, 25 November at 19.00. .

Karl Georg Büchner's play, which tells the story of a prince and princess who escaped from an unwanted marriage but fell in love with each other by chance, was highly appreciated by theatergoers. IKU Theater Club came together with the actors after the event. The activities of the Fine Arts Application and Research Center will continue with the Deniz Tekin concert on 16 December.

IKU IEEE Club students started their preparations for TEKONFEST 2022 without slowing down. Our students who are finalists in TEKONFEST 2021 will be in fierce competition by representing our University in the best way with new and dynamic categories in order to add new ones to their success!

What Did IKU IEEE Club Do at TEKNOFEST 2021?

İKÜ Kırmızı Kanatlar(IKU Red Wings) Fighting UAV Team, led by Ezgi Topcu, achieved a great success by placing 5th among 83 teams in the first stage, the Preliminary Design Report, despite its early years.

This success was followed by our Lupus Rocket Team and KUASAR Team, which participated in the Rocket and Technology for the Benefit of Humanity competition.

After successfully passing the "Critical Design Report" and "Video" stages, our teams, which were entitled to be finalists, completed their Teknofest 2021 adventures in a fierce struggle.

An event titled "Experience Design: Transformation of Data into Design Decisions, Roles, Processes, Journeys" was held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Monday, November 22, in cooperation with the New Media and Communication Club, Department of New Media and Communication and Effective Communication Club. In the event where roles, processes and journeys were discussed in the context of the transformation of data into design decisions, experts in their fields took part as speakers.

Vodafone UX Research Leader Ahmet Erşanlı and Akbank Customer Experience Manager Örsan Berkay Tülüce moderated the event, and the speakers of the event were Hepsiburada Senior UX Researcher Cansu Nur Kılıç, Hepsiburada UX Researcher Berkay Peker and N11 Senior UX Researcher Tülay Özgür. In the event where presentations on “User Experience”, which is considered as a growing professional field, were shared, answers were given to students' questions.

Lecturer Dr. Gökhan Kırbaç, Head of Program of Logistics at IKU Vocational School, gave lectures at the International Institute for Higher Education in Morocco (IIHEM) University in Morocco between 8-12 November 2021 within the scope of Erasmus+ KA107 Staff Exchange Teaching Program.

IKU Vocational School Program of Opticianry lecturers and students had the opportunity to get to know the technological developments, innovations, changes and designs of brands closely by visiting the International Silmo Istanbul Optical Fair, where optical sector participants from many countries took part. 

The study prepared by Ömer Özgün, one of our Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering students, under the consultancy of Yıldız Technical University Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering faculty member N. Özlem Ünverdi, was held on 10 September 2021 at the "22nd Annual Meeting". It was accepted as an oral presentation at the National Optics, Electro-Optics and Photonics Workshop (PHOTONICS 2021). We congratulate our student and wish him continued success.

The book titled “Sinemada Temsil ve Gerçeklik” edited by Yalçın Lüleci and Neşe Kaplan was published by Cartoon Book.

Assist. Prof. Perihan Taş Öz, Head of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, was among the authors of the book with the article titled "Temsile Yabancılaşmak: İnce Kırmızı Hat Filminde Tarih ve Temsil İlişkisi Üzerine".

The "Istanbul Rookies Championship" debate tournament will be organized by the Debate Club. The tournament, which will be held with the participation of different university students, will be hosted by our Ataköy campus on 27-28 November 2021 between 08.00-20.00.

The Department of Psychology will organize a conversation titled "Supporting Psychological Resilience in Children" in order to increase the academic knowledge level of individuals working with children. The event, where Assist. Prof. Gülçin Karadeniz from Maltepe University is the speaker, will be held on Monday, 29 November between 14.00-15.00 on CATS.

Kültür Point will organize “First Level Turkish Sign Language Education” in order to raise awareness about the deaf and hearing impaired in the society and to contribute to the personal and professional development of our students. The training, which will be given by the Instructor Gökben Keleş, will be held on 29-30 November between 15.00-18.00 in the Ataköy campus.

Kültür Noktası will organize a training titled "Web 2.0 Applications That Facilitate Learning", where techniques for improving learning processes with web 2.0 tools will be shared. The training, which will be given by the Deputy Head of Kültür Point Unit Mücella Ezgin, will be held at Ataköy Youth Center on Tuesday, November 30 between 16.00-18.00.

The Social Responsibility Club will organize the "4th A Hug of Book Campaign" to help Talaytepe Anatolian High School in Kayapınar-Diyarbakır, which does not have enough books in its library. The books that will be collected in the stand area on the B1 floor of Ataköy Campus between 1-31 December will be sent to the school in need.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics will organize an activity titled "Evaluation of Food Consumption in the Determination of Nutritional Status" in order to inform students about the methods and tools for determining the nutritional status within the scope of the "Determination of Nutritional Status in the Community" course. The event, where dietician Ramazan Balbay will be the speaker, will be held on Wednesday, December 1, between 13.30-15.00 on CATS.

Kültür Point will organize “First Level Turkish Sign Language Education” in order to raise awareness about the deaf and hearing impaired in the society and to contribute to the personal and professional development of our students. The training, which will be given by Instructor Gökben Keleş, will be held on December 1-2, between 16.30-19.30 in İncirli Campus.

In cooperation with Kültür Noktası and Habitat Association; A training program titled "My Sister in Kültür" will be organized in order to equip women with the knowledge and skills necessary for their participation in economic life and to support them to take an active role in economic development. The fourth of the program will be held by Instructor Ayşegül Şeker on Wednesday, December 1 at 18:00 on Microsoft Teams with the title "Mobile Photography Training".

A seminar titled "International Trade Seminar Series-II: Career and Management" will be organized by the Department of International Trade and Finance to inform students about their career processes. The event, where Dünya Newspaper Columnist Dr. Uğur Tandoğan will be the speaker, will be held on Thursday, December 2, at 10:00 on Microsoft Teams.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Student Life, Career and Alumni Counseling Unit (Kültür Point) will organize the "Philosophy of Mathematics and Thought Workshop" in order to discuss ways to reach the result without questioning the unthinkable. The workshop, in which thoughts from the past to the present and the future will be conveyed by using mathematical symbols, will be held by Instructor Numan Aydınoğlu on Thursday, December 2, between 15.00-18.30 at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

Kültür Point will organize “Diction and Effective Body Language Education” so that participants can speak Turkish effectively and use body language correctly. The education, which will be given by Instructor İlknur Güneş, will be held on Friday, December 26, between 15.00-18.30 in Ataköy Campus.

A "Documentary Screening" event will be held at the 3rd Floor Erdal İnönü Seminar Hall in Ataköy Campus between 15.00-17.00 on Friday, December 3, by IKU Young TEMA Club in order to draw attention to the importance of agriculture.

A conversation titled "Future of Language Learning and Teaching" will be held in cooperation with the ELT Club and the English Language Teaching Club to introduce the skills that future English teachers should have. The event, in which our Head of the Department of Foreign Languages Lecturer Dr. Sinan Bataklar will be the speaker, will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 between 15.00-16.30 at the Press Express Campus Conference Hall.

IKU Sign Language Choir, consisting of Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) students, continues its concerts to raise awareness in Turkish Sign Language. The second stop of the choir, which gave the first of its concert series in Çatalca in December 2020, will be Trabzon. IKU Sign Language Choir was invited to the event to be held on Friday, December 3, at 18.00, at the Hamamizade İhsan Bey Culture Center as part of the "December 3 World Day of Persons with Disabilities" by Trabzon Ortahisar Municipality.

Could you briefly describe yourself? Who is Res. Assist. Berkay Oskay in 2-3 sentences?

First of all, thank you for including me in this column. I am a person who likes to research, is curious, open to difference and diversity, both in terms of my profession and individual interest. This brings with it vitality and mobility. In general, I can say that I have a cheerful disposition.

How did your participation in Kültür Family evolve?

This process was actually planned on the one hand, but also accidental on the other. In the early years of my undergraduate life, I decided to become an academician and I was always trying to plan my life accordingly. When I started my graduate education, I started to follow academic staff announcements. At that time, I had applied to a foundation university and the exam was asked very specific, refined questions that only a candidate with relevant research could answer. This situation created the impression that a staff announcement was opened only for certain people and I was disappointed. As a matter of fact, I often heard similar stories from my environment. After this negative experience, I came across the staff announcement of Istanbul Kültür University and applied. I was with my family in İzmir when the pre-evaluation results were announced and I was happy when I saw that I was entitled to take the exam, but on the other hand, I gave up taking the exam due to the dilemma of "What if the candidate to be accepted here is already decided". However, the day before the exam, my mother convinced me to try my luck one last time, as I have always wanted this profession and put so much effort into it. I gave up on my decision and bought my ticket and came to Istanbul. When I passed the exam successfully, my adventure with Kültür Family started. I have been a member of the IKU family since 2017. This was a turning point for me, and the existence of an institution that manages the recruitment processes according to talent gave me hope. I also express this aspect of IKU at every opportunity.
