Istanbul Kültür University Foreign Languages ​​Department has published an exhibition on the web pages and social media accounts of our university within the scope of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day Commemoration. The exhibition featured images of the Turkish Nation's struggle against the treacherous coup attempt on July 15, with perseverance and determination.

A webinar titled “July 15 Democracy Victory: Ömer Halisdemir and Our Martyrs” was organized within the scope of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day in cooperation with Atatürk Thought Club (ADK) and Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Research and Application Center (ATAMER). Attorney Fevzi Ender Ferahbaş attended the webinar, which was held on Tuesday, 14 July 2020 at 15.00, as a speaker. FETÖ, which attempted a treacherous coup attempt against the will of our nation on July 15, 2016, included the writers and academicians who pointed out the dangerous aspects of the terrorist organization years ago; All the heroic martyrs-veterans who took care of the events, homeland and democracy on July 15, the life story of our martyr Command Sergeant Major Ömer Halisdemir, and the upright stance of our citizens, police, and patriotic soldiers were mentioned.

In the webinar, Atatürk's speech addressed to the officers, the oath of military service, the honor and dignity of the Turkish Armed Forces, full independence, national sovereignty, secularism, Language Unity, the nation and the indivisible integrity of our citizens and the need not to deviate from Ataturk and the values of the Republic were also transferred to the participants.

IKU Foreign Languages Department organized a webinar titled “July 15th Day of Democracy and National Unity Speeches” within the scope of July 15th Day of Democracy and National Unity. Hürriyet newspaper writer Nedim Şener attended the event held on Tuesday, July 14th through the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application. Şener, who made evaluations about what happened on July 15, emphasized what needs to be done in order not to forget the treacherous coup attempt that was prevented by the determination and determination of the Turkish nation.

We are in the 4th month of our communication that started with Pandemic. Spring semester, midterms, finals, makeups, summer education and graduate education… We have left behind some of these critical topics in higher education. Our summer education has started and we are in the application period for graduate education. Our experience of digitalization in all our processes is increasing every day. As of June, we switched to a mixed model in our working system.

We are currently on the verge of preference days, which are decisive for the 2020-2021 academic year of our university. We are making our plans on two alternative scenarios, on campus and on the digital platform. In this period, where we will introduce the world of Kültür to applicant students and their families, our focus is; reaching the highest number of preferences and registrations.

If there is no major risk or a second wave in terms of health and safety in the coming days, we plan to use the on-campus communication actively in our promotions. We have determined our physical areas according to the limited number of visitors and social distance. Our active campus will be our Ataköy Campus. No clear statement has been made yet from Measuring, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), but we anticipate that the preference days will continue until the second week of August. This year, Digital Guidance Platform, which is a new application for our university, will also be put into operation during the preference period. In this system, which will bring our candidates live with Istanbul Kültür University, video and audio calls will be made using CATS Collaborate module. Our Digital Preference Platform, which is born out of the synergy of our administrative units and will gain meaning with the effective use of our academics, was realized entirely with the effort of our internal resources. This development is one of the best examples of Kültür’s success in digitalization. We would like to thank our friends who contributed to the Digital Preference Platform, which was brought to our university in coordination with the Directorate of  Information Systems and Technologies and Corporate Communication Department; I wish the platform to be used by academic and administrative units with maximum benefit.

Registrations for our graduate education programs were opened at our university last week. It was gladsome to see the interest of our youth in master's degree and PhD programs in the live broadcast with our Institute Director Prof. Dr. Tunç Mısırlıoğlu. Our students, who have completed the 4th grade in the pandemic period, begin to work, especially in a period of uncertainty about employment. In these difficult conditions, it is our responsibility to support our graduates for professional developments and new horizons. In this period, I especially request that our dialogue with our 2020 graduates be managed more actively at the level of coaching and mentoring. We need the mobilization of all our faculties regarding the privileges that our university offers to our graduates in graduate education. I believe that our academic and administrative staff will provide the necessary synergy under this title.

Following our message last week, I received different questions from my workmates regarding the return of all our staff, especially regarding the date and planning. It is not possible to make long-term decisions during the crisis, nor is it right. At this stage, we will share with you the names assigned from our academic and administrative staff due to our preference days in August. However, I would like to state once again that we are working on different scenarios for timing for the full staff return. Our target is August that the scenario where everything related to health and safety is on track. However, our priority is always health and safety. KOVKOM and the General Secretariat will continue to regularly share our plans for our return and work process with us.

This period, which we try to normalize with all our efforts, has also its own challenges, uncertainties and question marks. In times of crisis, it may not be possible to proceed with ideal scenarios that are always planned and imagined. While the future remains uncertain all over the world, we are all in a struggle for existence on the front of health, economy and security. We request that the measures taken, the decisions made and the practices carried out in such a bizarre time not be interpreted personally. Considering that pandemic facts are decisive in our circumstances; It is much more important in this period for our work, relationships and individual health.

With subsidence of the COVID-19 pandemic to medically acceptable levels, international coordination of health and safety protocols, once agreed and implemented, will be the critical first step to the next phase to the opening of international tourism, more likely well into 2021, and unlikely to be a robust one, if travel is restricted to any agreed ‘quarantine-free corridors. Then there remains the issue of social (physical) distancing and wearing protective masks at airports and onboard planes, and expectation that at destination countries agreed protocols will be respected. One major challenge to medical tourism for the immediate future is travel by the elderly and other vulnerable individuals, for whom travel restrictions may be more stringent.

An e-seminar titled "The Sector That Has Not Been Voided: Textile and Ready-to-Wear" was organized on Friday, July 3 within the scope of the "Webinar Entrepreneurship Models" series organized by Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School. This week's guest of the webinar series, which was organized with the experience of entrepreneurs who have succeeded in their sectors, to gain different perspectives and increase awareness among students in various sectors, was Hüseyin Öztürk, Chairman of the Board of Fashion and Garment Federation. In the webinar, where the information that students can use in their working lives are shared, students who want to work in the textile and garment industry, which has an important share in the trade volume of our country, were presented with a future perspective. Hüseyin Öztürk also made a guiding statement to young entrepreneur candidates who wanted to introduce an initiative in the sector. Öztürk also mentioned the milestones in the development of the textile and garment industry with his experiences. Öztürk emphasized that the textile and garment industry is a sector open to change, and recommended that students who want to venture in this field should follow the latest developments and follow global trends closely.

Stating that they have many attempts to increase exports with the members under the umbrella of the Fashion and Garment Federation, Öztürk emphasized the importance of internet researches especially to the point of access of information to entrepreneurs. Offering a future perspective for textile and ready-to-wear products that accelerate trade with e-commerce, Öztürk touched on the innovative developments used in the products. Öztürk informed the participants about the fairs organized specifically for the sector. In the event, it was emphasized that university-sector collaborations that students studying in Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School departments will be able to benefit from in various fields will continue. Hüseyin Öztürk underlined that the fact that students reach certain experiences and knowledge through internships and various projects they will work before completing their education facilitates entry into the working life after graduation. In the webinar, where new graduates should pay attention to their job applications, how the students could improve themselves during their education was discussed. Öztürk emphasized that our students and entrepreneur candidates who want to make their own initiatives should plan every step they will take. Noting that the industry is not only a pioneer in foreign trade, one of its biggest features is the employment density, adding that new normally sustainability approaches are gaining importance day by day. Answering the questions of the participants during the webinar, Öztürk made determinations regarding the national and global conjuncture.

The purpose, scope, services to be provided, contributions to education and training, research and innovation goals of Istanbul Kültür University, Motion Analysis Application and Evaluation, Application and Research Center (İKÜ-HAM) which established within our university were introduced by Director of the Center & Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Nazif Ekin Akalan and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department President Prof. Dr. Burcu Semin Akel at the meeting attended by our students.

İstanbul Kültür University Alumni Association (İKÜMED) has organised “Short to Long Film Interviews” in which Ömer Faruk Yardımcı, one of our 2009 alumni, was the speaker. The interview has moderated by one of our 2009 Department of Communication and Communication Design alumni and academic, Ömür Kınay and carried out at @ikumezun Instagram account on July 14th, Tuesday.

Alumni interviews will be carried out every Tuesday at 16.00, in accordance with the topics specified with professions.

Within the scope of the “Work is for the Knower. Entrepreneurship Models” webinar series organized by Vocational School of Istanbul Kültür University (İKÜ), a webinar titled “Foreign Trade, Entrepreneurship and Employment in the New Economy” was held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. Osman Karatay, General Manager of Onel Group of Companies, Customs Consultancy, participated in the event as a speaker and shared his experiences with our participants. Giving examples from his professional life, Karatay also touched on the history of the customs consultancy profession in our country. As a profession, he talked about what customs consultancy means for businesses and what functions they have. Karatay, who shared the examples of the initiative he made while starting the profession, also emphasized the importance of certification programs for new graduates.

He emphasized the necessity of knowing the characteristics of different cultures and managing the process well while conducting international trade activities, as well as having a command of foreign languages. Answering the questions asked by students during the webinar, Karatay underlined the importance of new graduates' ability to improve themselves according to their interests.

At the event, it was mentioned that the connection between the parties in foreign trade with the developing internet technologies of today has become easier and the competition has increased at the same rate. Increasing students' awareness about the responsibilities taken with the customs consultancy profession, Karatay drew attention to the importance of having the current legislation. Stating that the ones performing the customs consultancy profession in our country are relatively less than other professions, our guest stated that the need for customs consultants continues, an entrepreneur should take into account all kinds of possibilities and there are various promising areas and new opportunities for entrepreneurs in our country.

Evaluating the latest foreign trade figures of our country, Karatay explained what additional tax tariffs mean. Karatay brought a new perspective to our students with the examples he talked about.

The seventh of the "Work is for the Knower. Entrepreneurship Models" webinar series organized by Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School was held on Monday, 13 July at 21:00. In the e-seminar titled “Rules of Trade in the New World After COVID-19”, the pandemic process was evaluated in terms of the status of the foreign trade and logistics sectors, entrepreneurship and career opportunities before and after. Dr. Hakan Çınar, the chairman of the Board of Directors of DIŞYÖNDER & Mentor Group, who participated in the event as a speaker, pointed out the importance of mentorship in guiding the careers of young people by giving examples from their own experiences.

Stating that the increase in the share of e-commerce within the total trade volume has accelerated with the pandem, Çınar explained with examples that country governments have made new regulations with the spread of e-commerce. He emphasized the importance of the rapid adaptation of young people who are prone to online shopping and especially the Z generation to the digital transformation and technology-based ecosystem. Providing up-to-date examples of solutions developed in response to constraints caused by the pandemic process, Çınar compared the periods he described as "pre-virus-post-virus".

Stating that exports in our country lag behind imports, Çınar stated that the export of value-added products and branding can come through these problems. Our guest, who stated that he expects normalization around September, advised those who want to pursue a career and entrepreneurship in the foreign trade and logistics sectors to follow daily, work hard and behave ethically as they should.

Istanbul Kültür University Alumni Association (IKUMED) will organize a webinar titled “Analog Graduate in the Digital World” in which Technology writer and Project Counsellor Instructor Suat Yalnızoğlu, one of our 2007 graduates, will be the speaker. The event, moderated by one of our 2009 Department of Communication and Communication Design alumni and academic, Ömür Kınay and will be carried out at @ikumezun Instagram account on July 21st Tuesday at 16.00.

A “2020 English Language Teaching Farewell Conversation” will be held by the Department of Foreign Language Education to talk about the education process and future plans with the 2019-2020 graduates. The event, in which the Head of the Department Foreign Languages Education Asst. Prof. Cem Özışık will be the moderator, will be held on Wednesday, July 22, at 18.00 through the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

IKU Vocational School will organize a webinar titled “Insurance Sector During and After Pandemic” to convey the impact of the pandemic period to the insurance industry. Can you describe yourself briefly? Who is Buse Alioğlu with 2-3 sentences?

I was born in 1992 in Muğla. We moved to different cities many times because my father and mother were civil servants. I completed my primary education in Kastamonu's Küre district and came to Istanbul.  After graduating from Çamlıca Girls High School, I started to study at Istanbul Kültür University Department of Economics in 2010. I graduated from the Department of Economics in 2015 and from the Department of Mathematics and Computer in 2016 as part of the Double Major Program. I am currently working as an Education Specialist at Istanbul Kültür University Continuing Education, Application and Research Center (İKÜSEM).

How did your participation in the Kültür Family develop?

In 2010, when I studied at Istanbul Kültür University Department of Economics, I met the Kültür Family. I made friends in a very short time and did not have any adaptation problems. The fact that I worked in the role of Kültür Ambassador within the Corporate Communication Department also has a great impact on this. After my student life has ended, I have stepped into business life as a "Education Specialist" again in Kültür. In this process, as a Culture student, I completed my master's degree in Business Administration.
