OPPORTUNITIES OF THE PANDEMIC CRISIS TALKED AT THE 10TH SMEs AND PRODUCTIVITY CONGRESS

The "10th SMEs and Productivity Congress" was held as a hybrid in Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on 9-10 June 2022 in cooperation with IKU Department of Business Administration and Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Support Administration (KOSGEB).

In the two-day congress program held with the theme of "Opportunities Presented by the Pandemic to SMEs"; "SMEs and Digitalization", "Covid-19 Pandemic and SMEs", "SMEs in Terms of Business Functions in the Light of New Developments", "Digital Transformation and Technology Use in SMEs", "Industry 4.0 Artificial Intelligence", " E-Business", "E-Business", "E-University", "E-Commerce", "Social Media Sales", "Using Information Technologies", "Environmentally Friendly Green Production", "Next Generation Business Models in SMEs" ' were discussed.

Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Müge Çetiner, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver and Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal made the opening speeches.

Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, TÜRKONFED, Corpitall, TUGİM and INGEV became sponsors to the congress which KOSGEB Vice President Recep Ali Erdoğan attended as an invited speaker. The comprehensive electronic book of the congress will meet the readers in July 2022.

Dialogue for the Vital Force of SMEs

Noting that the world went through an important test with the pandemic, Prof. Dr. Müge Çetiner drew attention to the importance of the dialogue between the public, private sector, and the scientific world in protecting the vital forces of SMEs and increasing their competitiveness.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal said the following about the 10th anniversary of the congress and its theme:

“If we had tried to predict today’s theme 10 years ago, the pandemic might have been considered a risk in our notes. However, topics such as technology, economic crises and the effects of globalization would have still predominated in the conditions of that period, and a pandemic would not have been the first thing that would come to our minds.

Yes, the times have changed. We have come to a very different point where the understanding of production and service is being redefined. The purpose of existence of small, medium and large enterprises, philosophy, management principles, growth targets and areas of responsibility are much more comprehensive than 10 years ago. There is no doubt that the pandemic has triggered a new milestone for businesses. The main goal of our congress is to facilitate the approach of SMEs, which play a fundamental role for the economic and social development of our country, to the pandemic crisis with a different projection.”

Administrative Responsibility to Read the Message of Crises Correctly

Stating that Kültür College, which is a family business serving in the field of education, was established in the 1958 devaluation, our Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, on the other hand, pointed out that turning crisis into opportunity is a strategic process rather than an instinctive and pragmatic understanding. Our Chairman of the Board of Trustees said, “It requires a correct understanding and interpretation of the problem.

It is a process that combines the ability to see the opportunities in the crisis, to look at the issue as a calm power, agility, a high analytical intelligence, producing solutions, objective evaluation, rational optimism in balance, requiring high effort, and which can reach its meaning with a common mind. If the search for opportunities in the depths of the crisis can be carried out with the ideal of serving people and the country by taking it one step beyond personal interests and high commercial concerns, it is a great success. Today, our family business, Kültür College, to which our university owes its root values, is also a work of crisis period. It is, after the 1958 devaluation, the initiative of our Founder and Honorary President, Civil Engineer Fahamettin Akıngüç, whose profession is engineering, and passion is education. Maybe that's partly why every crisis is like an opportunity for us to improve our schools, and a school to strengthen our steps and keep our feet firmly on the ground.”

23rd International Psychological Counseling and Guidance Congress

The 23rd International Psychological Counseling and Guidance Congress, organized with the cooperation of the Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association and Istanbul Kültür University (IKU), was held at Akıngüç Auditorium and Cultural Center on 13-15 June with the theme of 'Psychological Counseling and Guidance for Sustainable Development'.

23rd International Psychological Counseling and Guidance Congress was started of by the opening speeches of Istanbul Deputy Governor Dr. Yaşar Aksanyar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of IKU Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, President of the Turkish PCG Association Clinical Psychologist Oğuz Özat, Head of IKU Department of Educational Sciences Prof. Dr. Alim Kaya and the event was attended by Counseling Professionals, education administrators and teachers from the public and private sectors throughout Turkey. In his opening speech to congress, which lasted for 3 days, Istanbul Deputy Governor Dr. Yaşar Aksanyar said, “Today, individuals who cannot repair themselves are increasing in our society. It is very important that we examine the psychology of our society.” he said.

“INTERDISCIPLINARY GUIDANCE OFFICE ESTABLISHED”

Our Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver pointed out that important steps have been taken for the development and the of PCG Culture since the establishment of Kültür College and said:

“The observations of our Honorary President and Founder, Fahamettin Akıngüç, from his research on schools in Philadelphia and Pittsburg in the 60’s US, laid the foundations for the Guidance Office, which was established for the first time in an College in Turkey in 1968 at Kültür College.

When he returned to Turkey , he established the interdisciplinary guidance office, which was newly established by the Ministry of National Education, by meeting with experts working in the General Directorate of Testing and Guidance who were trained abroad.”

“PCG AND RESEARCHERS HAVE A GREAT RESPONSIBILITY”

Touching on the work of the Department of Educational Sciences, which was put into service at the university and trains the aspiring PCRs of the future, Dr. Akıngüç Günver said, “In today’s world where generations are changing, learning and teaching are redefined and psychological well-being is of vital importance, qualified PCG specialists and researchers assume a great responsibility.”

“THERE ARE 300 PAPERS, 550 PARTICIPANTS”

Head of the Department of Educational Sciences Prof. Dr. Alim Kaya explained, "This is one of our most prestigious congresses as a psychological counseling community. About 300 papers, 5 panels and 21 workshops will be held at our congress. We have about 550 participants from 70 universities of our country. These participants are mostly comprised of academicians from the field of psychological counseling guidance.

We have psychological counselors working in our schools in practice. Mainly at the congress we chose the main theme of sustainable development. At the heart of sustainable development lies actually the yearning for an equal, fair world order for everyone and a world that respects nature and the environment. We would like to draw attention to such an issue and its approach to the phenomenon of sustainable development while doing the routine work of our own congress and to contribute from head to toe.”

“IT IS ALSO CREATING A NEW COMMUNICATION NETWORK AND A COOPERATION NETWORK”

Prof Dr. Erdal Hamarta, Dean of Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Education and Guidance and Psychological Counseling Assist Prof. in Necmettin Erbakan University, said, "Our studies here are the problems faced by both psychological counselors working in schools and our friends working outside the school in the Ministry of Justice or in the field of family counseling, in the field of career counseling. The congress consists of notices in which the information they produce about solutions or new information that appears in the field is shared with field employees. Of course, congresses are not only a place where information is shared, but also where new communication and cooperation networks are created.”

“THE BEST IS TÜRKİYE AFTER AMERICA”

Expert Psychological Counselor Oğuz Özat said, “We are holding our largest academic congress in the field of mental health, psychological counseling and school solidarity and guidance services. Here, academicians, students, field workers, psychological counselors meet. We consider this program significant to contribute to our field, to present scientific developments and studies. In fact, it is like a feast of psychological counselors. Psychological guidance services are the most developed in Türkiye after America as a system. The scientific and academic studies conducted here will contribute to our professional development in our field.”

“ICMEK 5TH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE EDUCATION”

The "5th ICMEK International Congress on Interior Architecture Education" was held online on June 16-17, 2022, in cooperation with the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design of Istanbul Kültür University and the Department of Interior Architecture of Karadeniz Technical University. At the congress, which was held with the theme of "Rethinking", the current situation of Interior Architecture education was brought up for discussion, and new dynamics and projections for the future were shared.

Researchers contributed to congress with their works about theory-practice-history, teacher-student dynamics, undergraduate-graduate, formality-informality, educational program-process, face-to-face-online, physical infrastructure-technological infrastructure, interdisciplinary interaction-continuous vocational education, digitalization, ethics and many more.

Leading representatives of the international academic field in interior architecture took part in the scientific committee of the congress, which was co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Gülay Usta and Prof. Dr. Tülay Zorlu. In the congress, which was held online for two days, important guest speakers who contributed to interior architecture education at international level took place.

On the first day of the congress, Rene Pier “ECIA Charter of Interior Architectural Training 2020” and Prof. Dr. Henry Sanoff made their presentation titled “Confronting Traditional Thinking about School Environments”. On the second day of the congress, Prof. Graeme Brooker “50-Words for Reuse” and Prof. Dr. Katelijin Quartier made their presentation titled “Professionalization of the discipline of interior architecture: intertwining research and education”.

With the protocol signed between Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) and Istanbul Energy Inc, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), careers continue to be shaped by providing students with vocational education competencies within the scope of the "Vocational Education Framework Regulation in Higher Education Institutions".

The Biomass Energy Production Facility in Silivri Seymen, which was allocated to IKU Vocational School students by Istanbul Energy Inc. has been visited by the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem İmamoğlu. During the visit held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, General Manager of Istanbul Energy Inc. Yüksel Yalçın and, representing IKU Vocational School, the Head of Program of Alternative Energy Resources Lecturer Dr. Makbule Tamkaş was present.

Lecturer Dr. Makbule Tamkaş presented a plaque to Mayor of IBB Ekrem İmamoğlu on behalf of IKU Vocational School Director Assist. Prof. Sinan Kesici and students.

On the last day of the WIN EURASIA fair, in which IKU Asimov Technology Club took part and Alparslan Güzey, Deputy Director of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) consulted, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal visited the stand of our students. IKU TTO Officials Participated in the “Innovation Report Card Training” Held by YAY YUKA PLATFORM

Authorities of Istanbul Kültür University Technology Transfer Office (TTO) participated in the “Innovation Report Card Training” held by YAY YUKA PLATFORM, which is one of its partners, for business representative candidates. Within the scope of the training, information was given about applications such as the accurate interpretation of the innovation report card, identifying the weaknesses and strengths of companies and reporting methods.

IKU Vocational School VEGA Drone Team Participated in "Bakırköy Drone Festival"

IKU Vocational School VEGA Drone Team participated in the "Bakırköy Drone Festival" event organized at Ataköy International Youth Center for Bakırköy Youth and Sports District Directorate; primary, secondary, high school and national defence school students to gain knowledge, skills and curiosity in the fields of drone construction and use, which is one of the favorite topics of the aviation industry.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School VEGA Drone Team, consisting of Ümit Emen, Gökçe Yağcıoğlu and Hüseyin Avni Odabaş, gave technical information to the participants about the use of drones at the event held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, and took various drone shots in the indoor and outdoor areas where the event was held.
