Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Head of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver published a message regarding the IKU agenda which has changed with the New Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

My Dear Kültür Family

The days of the corona exhausted us all. Time comes and goes, creating an erosion in our emotional being. It is very difficult to be locked in homes, give up freedoms, and not live fully due to the fear of a deadly pandemic. Another aspect of the business is that people internalize this situation. With the feeling that "it could be lived like this"; it is very thought-provoking to give up a very colorful, dynamic, productive and active life. I am worried that the young generations, who have to fit life into the home and on the screen, see and prefer this lifestyle naturally. Over time, will we turn into people who, with extreme health concerns, prefer screen loneliness to the crowd?

My Dear Kültür Family

The pandemic hinders life with certain restrictions. It is not possible not to see, not feel, not be affected. However, the main thing is the excitement we feel to move forward despite all this. The movement that manifests itself in the education and business processes of the university and makes its presence felt. I get good news from my colleagues about our excitement to produce.

All departments of our Faculty of Health Sciences and the Psychology Department of our Faculty of Arts and Sciences are preparing for a digital meeting for the Kültür family. The Communication Design Department of our Faculty of Art and Design will also support this work with the theme of Health and Happiness. This digital meeting to be held for our university family will be a surprise for all of us with its format. Views of members of Kültür will also take place in this meeting. I congratulate our Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Psychology, and Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Communication Design for their cooperation. My colleagues, who will share their pandemic experiences within the scope of the meeting, will make a great contribution to the memory we will create for the future. I would like to thank all my friends who will support them with their sincere sharings.

The pandemic has changed our working culture and continues to change. Under this heading, our Human Resources Department started its meetings on employee experience. One of the most interesting aspects of employee experience encounters is that they are hybrid. It is very important that they transfer technology to Human Resources management and development. I wish them success in their works.

My Dear Kültür Family 

Yes, we pass certain tests, we have difficulties from time to time. We live in a unique period of siege of wishes, anxieties and doubts. Last week, on April 6, 2020, Posta Newspaper Education Editor Sevim Büyüktaş Demir moved the interview she made with our student, Umut Ünlü, from the Business Management Program of the Vocational School, to her page. The title of the article, “Hope is Always There”, a unique reference for all of us in the period we live in, and the story of our student should inspire us in these difficult times.

Without losing hope and rational optimism, we, as Kültür Family, will continue to comply with health and safety measures to the end. We will continue our education service with a libertarian, democratic and egalitarian understanding. We will not be pacified due to the corona pandemic, and we will focus on eliminating learning losses with decisive steps. We will continue to work for a brighter and fairer future.

What remains from this time period will be the strong, durable and coordinated Kültür Family.

Istanbul Kültür University Department of Architecture continues to bring together the world's famous architects with their students and the architectural environment in the 2020-2021 Spring Semester. The second guest of the conference series held online was the famous architect Romi Khosla on Wednesday, March 7, 2021 at 17:00. After graduating from AA School of Architecture in London, Khosla founded Design Studios in India and designed more than a hundred buildings with national and international awards. In his speech titled “The Approaching Age of Natural, Not Mega Cities”, Khosla explained examples of his projects along with his natural design philosophy. The speaker, who was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement" award by the Antalya Chamber of Architects last year, was asked many questions about his projects. The life of the architect, who lived in the Himalayas and experienced the life there on foot, also attracted considerable attention. Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School of Banking and Insurance Program April 5, Monday held a seminar titled "Money and Asset Management in Turkey". Istanbul Portfolio Management Deputy General Manager Kaan Kolabaş attended the event moderated by Lecturer A. Berrak Köten, Head of the Evening Education Program of Banking and Insurance. Summarizing the role and activities of banks, brokerage houses and portfolio management companies in capital markets, Kaan Kolabaş gave information about the sector sizes of capital market members and institutions in the e-seminar.

Kaan Kolabaş gave information about Turkey Electronic Funds Distribution Platform (TEFAS) which is an electronic platform that was established with the permission of the CMB and provides access to all investment funds operating in the capital market through a single terminal and stated that domestic and foreign individual and institutional investors can trade on this platform.

Kaan Kolabaş also talked about the investment preferences of residents and the management of large funds in the world and in Turkey.

Istanbul Kültür University Department of Architecture; In 2020-2021 Spring Semester, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Dr. Neslihan Dostoğlu, Assist. Prof. Nevzat Ömer Saatcıoğlu and Lecturer Dr. Suzan Sanlı Esin, within the scope of the “Diploma Project” course, hosted Master Architect Caner Bilgin, Master Landscape Architect Defne Akşin Akyol and Master Landscape Architect Begüm Sabitoğlu from IMM.

In the jury session held on Wednesday, 14 April 2021, faculty members and guest jury members evaluated the Nature and Science Museum projects prepared by the students for the Kemerburgaz City Forest.

Within the scope of the Diploma Project planned in cooperation with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, it is aimed to present the project proposals developed by the students to the municipality at the end of the semester.

Our Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Dr. Neslihan Dostoğlu attended the 12th International Sinan Symposium organized online by the Faculty of Architecture of Trakya University on 8-9 April 2021 with the theme of "Architecture and Technology" as invited speaker. Prof. Dr. Dostoğlu made a speech titled "Architecture Fundamentals Training: Changing Responsibilities with the Pandemic Process" at the symposium.

IKU Vocational School hosted THY captain pilot Bilge Derin on Thursday, April 7, 2021. The conversation held on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application; Civil Air Transport Management, Civil Aviation Cabin Services, Flight Operations Management, Aircraft Technology and Air Logistics programs students attended.

An e-seminar titled "Kinetic Architecture, Post-Automation Reactive and Interactive Architecture" was held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 within the scope of the "Space-Architectural Concepts" course in the Architecture Doctorate Program conducted under the coordination of one of our faculty members, Assoc. Prof. Yasemin Erkan Yazıcı. In the seminar attended by Kocaeli University faculty member Assoc. Prof. Neşe Çakıcı Alp as a speaker; the history, features, types and applications of kinetic architecture were explained. Our guest also conveyed his own academic work to the students.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School Public Relations and Publicity Program organized an e-seminar titled "New Approaches in Public Relations Applications" on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. The guest of the event was Oya Uzun, Corporate Communications Manager of Boyner Büyük Mağazacılık, whose moderator was the Head of Public Relations and Promotion Program Lecturer Gözde Kuzu.

Uzun first talked about the differentiating dynamics in public relations practices with the changing expectations of consumers.

An e-seminar titled “General Principles Regarding the Use of Landscape Plants in Design” was held on Wednesday, April 14 within the scope of the “MIM4040 Principles of Urban Design” course conducted by Prof. Dr. Evrim Özkan Töre, a faculty member of the Department of Architecture. In the seminar, where Erdi Ekren, the author of the book "Landscape Plants and Features", was a speaker, urban open and green spaces, the benefits of plants, the vegetative design process and the importance of natural plants were mentioned. After his presentation, Ekren also answered the questions of the students. Students who took the “Urban Design Project” course also showed great interest in the event.  

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) organized a webinar titled "Cancer-Nervous System Relations" on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. MOBIGEN faculty members, students and alumni, as well as academicians from various universities in Turkey also attended the event, in which Prof. Dr. Mustafa Djamgoz (Imperial College London) participated as a speaker. MOBIGEN faculty member Seyhan Altun was the moderator of the event held on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application. The advantages and disadvantages of the similarities between cancer cells and nerve cells during diagnosis were evaluated in the laboratory. Ideas about the possible effects of this discovery on treatment strategies were discussed.

Thanks to the bioelectrical measurement-based methods developed, tumor tissues can be detected much more easily and in the early period and ideas about the possible effects of this discovery on treatment strategies were discussed.

An e-seminar titled “The Chronological Development of Cultural and Creative Industries in Turkey and Current Discussions” was held on Tuesday, April 13 within the scope of the “ARC0401 Urban Studies” course conducted by Prof. Dr. Evrim Töre, a faculty member of the Architecture Department. In the event where Assoc. Prof. Gökçe Dervişoğlu Okandan from Istanbul Bilgi University was a speaker; New business generation models, entrepreneurship, transformations in educational infrastructure and culture as the fourth pillar of sustainable development were conveyed to the students. Our guest also gave information about current cultural policy production, related organizations and platforms in Turkey.

Molecular Biology and Genetics Club organized an event titled "I. Bilim-Siz Days” on 10-11 April 2021. In the event; Under the main headings of CRISPR-Cas systems, astrobiology, neuroscience, molecular anthropology, biotechnology and plant biotechnology, our invited teachers Dr. Ahsen Özcan, Asst. Prof. Mehmet Taşkın Çay, Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç, Prof. Dr.  Ercan Arıcan, Assoc. Prof. Aşkım Hediye Ekmen Çetinel and Asst. Prof. Emel Sokullu presented their work.

The event, whose opening speech was made by our Molecular Biology and Genetics Department Head Prof. Dr. Özge Çelik, continued on both days with the speeches of invited academicians.

Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics and Bioengineering students in undergraduate and graduate programs as well as high school students attended the event, reaching 350 participants on Saturday, April 10 and 297 participants on Sunday, April 11.

The Department of Architecture brought together Betül Boy Zafer, the founder of Betül Boy Architecture, a 2010 graduate of IKU Architecture Department and students on Monday, April 12, 2021. Betül Boy Zafer, who was a guest of our university within the scope of the "Quality in Building Production Process" course, led by Asst. Prof. Gamze Alptekin, talked about his career journey starting from his student life. Our graduate informed students about issues such as goodwill in human relations, honesty, the importance of ethical values and strategic goals in business life in order to achieve professional success.

IKU IEEE Club organized an event titled "Bioculture" on Google Teams on 10-11 April 2021. To the event;Prof. Dr. Halil Kavaklı, Prof. Dr.  AHU Altınkurt Uncuoğlu, Prof. Dr. Elif, Damla Arısan, Assoc. Prof. Tuğba Boyuneğmez Tümer, Assoc. Prof. Pınar Obakan Yerlikaya, Asst. Prof. Fuat Dursun, Asst. Prof. Cihan Taştan, Sevgi Yorulmaz and Nurhan Kahraman attended as speakers. Subjects such as Neurology and COVID, Artificial Intelligence and Genetics, Astrobiology, Ancient DNA, Molecular Cancer, Biochemistry, Biological Clock, Marine Biology and Plant Biotechnology were featured at the event. Especially for the students studying in Biology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology and Genetics departments, awareness was created about the business lines and the fields they can turn to.

The event, in which an average of 120 students participated in each session, ended with the questions of the participants.

The 1st intermediate jury, held within the scope of the "MIM0006 Architectural Design VI" course conducted by Prof. Dr. Ayhan Usta and Res. Asst. Ufuk Küçükyazıcı, academicians of the Department of Architecture, was held on 8 April 2021 with the participation of Asst. Prof. M. Orkun Özüer from Beykent University.

Human Resources Department started the employee experience program with administrative department employees under the management of Serhat Zorlu, Deputy Secretary General for Human Resources. The first implementation of the program was carried out on Wednesday, April 7 between 10.00-13.00, as a hybrid with the staff of the Registrar's Office.

Employee experience program sessions will continue to be implemented with other administrative units. With this program, it is aimed to raise awareness of administrative staff on employee experience. Employees' working in high motivation and cooperation goes through a good employee experience. With this session, awareness is created among employees at all levels by providing important information about what the employee experience is and how to increase it. The goal is to provide the right employee experience.

The Human Resources Department organized its second study under the title of “Human Resources Interaction Sessions” on Friday, April 9, 2021 between 10.00-12.00.

Mid-level managers working in administrative units participated in the study, which was held in two sessions. In the sessions moderated by Murat Cantürk, Deputy Head of Human Resources Department; The requests, ideas and suggestions of the executives working in the relevant titles were received and work started in this direction.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School Business Management Program organized an e-seminar titled "The Foundation Story of Miniso" on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. In the seminar where İbrahim Şahin Cesur, one of the senior students of IKU Business Management Program, was the moderator; By Miniso Marketing and Brand Management Director Gonca Yilmaz Elbas, information was given about the birth of Miniso brand, founders, brand identity, target audience, marketing strategies, differences from competing businesses and of the differences and the key factors influencing the market success in Turkey. The seminar ended with answering the participants' questions.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School organized an e-seminar titled "Looking at the Future of Human Resources in Transformation Time". Assist. Prof. Deniz Daver, Mavi Senior Director of Human Resources & Organizational Development, and Canan Emgen, Senior Manager of Talent Recruitment and Recruitment, attended the event where Assist. Prof. Sawsan Başpınar and Banking and Insurance Evening Education Program Head Lecturer A. Berrak Köten were the moderators. In the event, information about the historical development of human resource management, revolutions that changed the world economy, human resources today, talent management, 20 global trends for talent transformation, human resources in the future, labor and transformation in Turkey, skills and competencies in human resources, the World Economic Forum - The Future Jobs Report - October 2020 Report was conveyed and evaluations were made.

An e-seminar titled “Antalya-Ormana Village Entrance and Village Center Refurbishment Project” was held on April 14, 2021 within the scope of the “ARC4040 Principles of Urban Design” course conducted by Assist. Prof. Z. Ayşe Gökşin, an academician of the Department of Architecture, and Res. Assist. İdil Akkuzu. In the seminar where Architect Aylin Durmaz was a speaker; The urban design project developed by Plankoop. Architecture for Antalya-Ormana was transferred under the headings of project development, design and implementation, focusing on the village entrance, the main square and the bazaar points.

The "Diploma Project 2nd Inter Jury" conducted by Prof. Dr. Ayhan Usta, Prof. Dr. Esra Bostancıoğlu, Lecturer Pelin Çetken and Res. Assist. Sevgi Pınar Turan, faculty members of the Architecture Department, was held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 with the participation of Master Architect Kaya Arıkoğlu.

Lecturer Pelin Tuna, Head of Tourism and Hotel Management Program at IKU Vocational School, wrote the chapter titled “Personal Brands” with Özcan Özbilek in the book titled Marka Külliyatı.

The book Marka Külliyatı brings together all the titles related to the brand in 34 chapters. Prof. Dr. Remzi Altunışık, Prof. Dr. Burhanettin Zengin and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Yıldırım were the editors of the book that was written by 40 senior academics from 18 different universities. Marketing Turkey Chief Editor Günseli Özeni, Brand Consultant Güven Borça, Prof. Dr. Yavuz Odabaşı has also contributed in “Marka Külliyatı” with their writings.

The distinctive feature of the book is that it talks about "brand tourists, brand hatred, trademark symbol, trademark gender, brand associations” that are not either treated in any article, books and leaflets level in Turkey or slightly processed. These titles, which are also interesting for researchers, have the potential to be the main source for future research.

Brand managers, brand experts, trademark lawyers, brand law professionals and students with master’s and Phd degrees will also be able to benefit from the book, which is at a level that can appeal to experts in all academia and business world.

The series of workshops organized by IKU Vocational School (MYO) in order to motivate students, rethink and reintegrate them as individuals with broad vision by bringing the concepts of "Culture-Art-Humor and Human" together with the understanding of "People First" continues. The Department of Basic Education will organize a webinar titled "Game in the Digital Age" in order to emphasize the importance of the game with applications especially for preschool children as a result of the widespread use of digital tools with the pandemic. The event, where Prof. Dr. Nesrin Işıkoğlu Erdoğan from Pamukkale University will be a speaker, will be held on Monday, April 19 at 20.30 via Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics will organize a webinar to inform students about how to prepare nutrition education materials for children within the scope of the "Nutrition Education and Consultancy" course. The event, where Asst. Prof. Duygu Yalman Polatlar from Fatih Sultan Mehmet University will be a speaker, will be held on Monday, April 19 at 14:00 over CATS.

The Department of English Language and Literature will organize a webinar titled “Why and How Are Peoples Ruled as They Deserve? Or Who, Why and How Did Awaken the Monster?” to provide students with information about the relationship between comic books and literature. The event in which Lecturer Mehmet Emin Adanalı from Boğaziçi University will be a speaker will be held on Cats on Monday, April 19th at 15:00.

Kültür Point continues to organize “Kültür of Life Academy Now and In the Future” in order to support the career planning processes of our students by bringing them together with experts in their fields. The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences organizes an award-winning competition to support students in effective career planning. Students who want to participate in the competition in which the winner will be awarded 500 TL; 300 TL for the second place and 200 TL for the third place; should send their PDF files containing their career plans and their resumes to p.sarp@iku.edu.tr  between the dates of April 20 and May 15.

The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design will organize the "50 Words for Reuse" seminar in order to give Interior Architecture students a different perspective and knowledge. Head of the Royal Collage of Art London Interior Architecture Department Prof. Graeme Brooker will participate as a speaker and the event will be held on Tuesday, April 20 at 16:00.

IKU Kültür Point will organize "Creative Writing Course" on Tuesday, April 20 at 19.00 in order to improve the creative writing skills of our students and graduates. The course, in which English Teacher - Instructor Yağmur Toka from Bilfen College, will be a speaker, will be carried out over the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

The Department of Architecture will organize an e-seminar titled "Use of Computer Technologies in Architecture History Training" to inform students. The event, where Assist. Prof. Pelin Yoncacı Arslan from METU, Assist. Prof. Muzaffer Özgüleş from Gaziantep University and Assist. Prof. H. İbrahim Alpaslan from Dokuz Eylül University will be speakers, will be held on Tuesday, April 20 at 20:00.

The solo exhibition of Assist. Prof. Dide Akdağ Satır, Head of Cartoon and Animation Department, can be visited at İKÜSAG Exhibition Hall between April 21 and May 11.

The Department of Cartoon and Animation will organize an e-seminar titled "Animation Conversations 4" to support students' career planning processes. The event, where Pınar Aygün, the Founder of Paw Production and Advertising, will share her experiences as a speaker with the students, will be held on Wednesday, April 21 at 11:00 on CATS.

The Department of Turkish Language and Literature will organize a webinar titled “Readings of Leyla ile Mecnun with Prof. Dr. İskender Pala” in order to mention the position and importance of the story “Leyla ile Mecnun”, one of the important works of classical Turkish literature. IKU Kültür Point will organize "Basic Disaster Knowledge Training" on Wednesday, April 21 at 17.00 in order to raise awareness about protection and situation management in case of disaster. The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics will organize a webinar titled “Current Proteomics Approaches” in order to provide an overview of the process, from hypotheses about genes to current proteomic studies. “Legal Literacy Certificate Education Programs”, which are open to all students of our university, continue by the Faculty of Law. Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Student Life, Career and Graduate Counseling Unit (Kültür Point) continues to organize the "Philosophy of Mathematics and Thought Workshop" in order to discuss the ways of reaching results by not questioning the unthinkable. Can you briefly describe yourself? With 2-3 sentences, who is Lecturer Şeyda Şen?

I was born in Istanbul in 1984. I completed my undergraduate education at Yıldız Technical University, Department of Architecture in 2008, and my master's degree in Istanbul Technical University, Department of Architecture, Restoration Program in 2011. I continue my doctoral studies in Istanbul Technical University, Department of Architecture, Restoration Program. I have been working at Istanbul Kültür University since 2012. From the same date in DOCOMOMO Working Group on Turkey which works to draw the attention of the public to Modernism, which came to the fore in the 20th century, and to document and protect the products of modern architecture, design and urban planning.

The world is going through a difficult process. How did you go through the pandemic process? What has this process changed in your life?

The pandemic process has unfortunately changed all our habits. I think it is the first time in my life since my childhood that I spend such long hours at my house. In this process, while I am removing some of my habits from my life, I try to replace some of them with new ones. Before the pandemic, my trainings in the gym were replaced by long walks and the food orders were replaced by efforts to cook healthy meals. Although it is saddening for me to not be able to meet physically with the students in my first year as a lecturer, conducting our lessons with video motivates us.

We have been separated from our working environment and colleagues for a long time. What are your thoughts on the new normal?

The pandemic that took place simultaneously all over the world offered us the opportunity to experience different ways of getting together. Webinars, digital archives and libraries that I also follow and which are held by different institutions in different countries have removed the physical limits to accessing information. On the other hand, I look forward to getting back together with both my colleagues and students.
