Istanbul Kültür University Art Gallery (IKUSAG) opened the 2021-2022 art season on Wednesday, October 13 at 15.00 with the art exhibition titled "Face to Face" by Painter Sema Barlas.

The first guest of the 2021-2022 Fall Term Architecture Talks organized by the Department of Architecture of Istanbul Kultur University was Abdurrahman Çekim from Baraka Architecture. Çekim met with the students and academicians of the Department of Architecture at the Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Monday, October 11, with her presentation on "Searching, Understanding, Collecting". Students and academics showed great interest in the conference, which was held face-to-face after the pandemic.

Established in 2009 in Kuzguncuk with the partnership of Abdurrahman Çekim and Sevilay Uğur Çekim, "Baraka" has produced considerable projects in housing, hotel, office, school, logistics center etc. In addition, they have won degrees in various national competitions. “Baraka”, which is selective in business and prefers to stay in a boutique range in terms of size, consists of a young and dynamic team like itself. 

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School Program of Radio and Television Technology students attended Filmekimi on October 11, 2021, with a selection of the best and newest films that won awards at festivals and were eagerly awaited.

Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), Filmekimi will be held in Istanbul on October 8-17, October 15-19 in Ankara, and October 22-26 in Izmir with its full program of films that have attracted attention recently. Movies can be watched at Atlas 1948 Cinema, Beyoğlu Cinema and Kadıköy Cinema in Istanbul, Cinemaximum Armada in Ankara and Cinemaximum Mavi Bahçe in Izmir.

Our Program of Radio and TV Technology students will analyze the films they will watch at the festival, interpret and present them in their classes.

Lecturer Meri Taksi Deveciyan one of our academics from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, hosted Begüm Güney, Curator of Odeabank O’Art in the “Marketing Principles” course and Temel Parlak, Drivedata General Manager, in the “Marketing Management” on Tuesday, October 12. Our guests shared their experiences in the marketing field with our students.

Kültür Point will organize the 1st Level Turkish Sign Language Education in order to raise awareness about the deaf and hearing impaired in the society and to contribute to the personal and professional development of our students. The training, which will be given by trainer Gökben Keleş, will be held on October 18-19 between 15.00-18.00 in Ataköy campus.

IKU IEEE Club will organize meeting to enable new members to meet each other and to provide information about club activities. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 19 at 17.30 in Ataköy campus.

Kültür Point will organize the “1st Level Turkish Sign Language Education” in order to raise awareness about the deaf and hearing impaired in the society and to contribute to the personal and professional development of our students. The training, which will be given by Instructor Gökben Keleş, will be held on October 20-21 between 16.30-19.30 at İncirli Campus.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Student Life, Career and Alumni Counseling Unit (Kültür Point) will organize the "Philosophy of Mathematics and Thought Workshop" in order to discuss ways to reach the result without questioning the unthinkable. The workshop, in which ideas from the past to the present and the future will be conveyed by using mathematical symbols, will be held by Instructor Numan Aydınoğlu on Thursday, October 21 between 15.00-18.30 at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

Molecular Biology and Genetics Club will organize a introduction meeting for its new members to socialize with each other on Thursday, October 21, at 17.00 Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan Seminar Hall.

Kültür Point will organize “Diction and Effective Body Language Education” which aims for its participants to speak Turkish effectively and use body language correctly. The education, which will be given by Instructor İlknur Güneş, will be held on Friday, October 22 between 15.00-18.30 in Ataköy campus.

I graduated from Kultur College in 1974. The first time I met the Kultur family was in 1968. I was a student when our Honorary Chairman of the Board of Trustees civil engineer (m.sc) Fahamettin Akıngüç is a manager.

My college years were spent in the United States. I completed my undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees in the USA. In 1989, I received the trainer's trainer certificate in Cologne-Germany.

When I was a student at university, I played on tennis and football teams. At the age of 16 and 18, I played basketball at Yeşilköy Sports Club. I boxed for about 5 years during my middle and high school years. At the age of 16-18, I sailed under license at Yeşilyurt Sports Club.

I am married and father of 2 daughters. I have 3 dogs and 1 cat. I love teaching, nature, greenhouse cultivation, skiing in the winter and fishing in the summer.

I am completing my 24th year at Istanbul Kultur University. During this time, I worked in various departments of our university in academic and administrative affairs. On September 1, 2021, I was appointed as the General Secretary by our Rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal. 

The theme of IIAC8 - Peopling Insular Art: Practice, Performance, Perception - was intended to focus attention on those who commissioned, created, and engaged with Insular art objects, and how they conceptualised, fashioned, and experienced them (with ‘engagement'covering not only contemporary audiences, but later medieval and modern ones too). The twenty-one articles gathered here reflect the diverse ways in which this theme has been interpreted. They demonstrate the intellectual vibrancy of Insular art studies, its international outlook, its interdiscplinarity, and its openness to innovative technologies and approaches, while at the same time demonstrating the strength and enduring value of established methodologies and research practices. The studies collected here focus not only on made objects, but on the creative processes and intellectual decisions which informed their making. This volume brings Insular makers – the illuminators, pattern-makers, rubricators, carvers, and casters – to the fore.
