The Academic Board of Department of Architecture is held with the participation of our rector Prof. Dr. Hanife Öztürk Akkartal on January 12, 2022, Wednesday at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall. After the presentation of the dean of our faculty Prof. Dr. Neslihan Dostoğlu which evaluated the faculty since its establishment and the covered the problems and future goals, the opinions and suggestions of academics of Department of Architecture and Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design are evaluated by our Rector.

IKU Sign Language Choir Chief Gökben Keleş and three students visited our Rector Hanife Öztürk Akkartal on Thursday, January 13, 2022. Choir students who introduced themselves conveyed the awareness they created through IKU Sign Language training to our Rector. Talking about the Sign Language Choir activities created after the training and the programs they attended, our students invited our Rector Hanife Öztürk Akkartal to the concert planned to be held in May.

As part of the fight against COVID-19, "COVID-19", "Chemical Definition", "Color Code", "Zero Waste Management" and "Recycling" trainings were given to our cleaning personnel on Saturday, January 8, by the Support Services Department.

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics held a seminar titled "Biological Data Mining Approaches in Omic Technologies" on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. The event, which was held on the CATS platform, was attended by Dr. Ayşen Yumurtacı attended as a speaker. In the seminar where Prof. Dr. Özge Çelik, a faculty member of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, acted as the moderator; After explaining the bioinformatics tools used in compiling and analyzing complex biological data, detailed information was given about the advantages of web-based platforms used in different Omic technologies, the points where they differ from each other and the points to be considered in applications. In the seminar, ideas about programs that can be developed in the near future and the functions that these programs will have were also discussed.

Hello Dear İKÜMED Family,

I met with Istanbul Kültür University in 2008 as a civil engineering student. I spent a total of 5 years as a student, the first year of which was English Preparatory School, both challenging and productive. I can easily say that I started my working life one step ahead of my friends who graduated from other universities, thanks to the education I received from the leading and expert faculty members of our country. Undoubtedly, the most important reason for this is the disciplined education approach of the Istanbul Kültür University Department of Civil Engineering, as well as the effort to guide its students to be the best in their field by integrating with the world. In addition, I must definitely mention the positive effects of the advanced English, computer and laboratory trainings I have received on my daily and business life. Although most of my time was spent studying the heavy classes we took during my student years, I also tried to spare time for my social life. In addition to the good friendships I gained from the department I studied, we had a good time with positive people I met in clubs, both inside and outside the university. In particular, the one-week trip we made to Eskişehir in June 2010 through IKU Construction Club and the matches we went to with my friends from 1907 ÜniFEB, which I was a member of when I was a student, are among the beautiful memories I will never forget. After graduation, as I mentioned at the beginning, my adaptation to working life was easier than I expected, thanks to an education above the standards I received and the contribution of my internships. After about 8.5 years after my graduation, I have gained important experiences in terms of my career by taking part in international and domestic projects. In addition, I can say that I have been well adapted to the jobs in both fields by having the opportunity to work in both the field and office areas of civil engineering. Currently, I have been working as a Progress Payment Engineering in the Kütahya City Hospital project of 150 thousand m2 in GURIS, which is the leading engineering and construction company of our country, for about 2 years, depending on the technical office department. Thinking that it will be a good work for our country when completed and taking part in such a great work increases my motivation and reinforces my commitment to my profession. University life, which is one of the most important parts of our lives, seems to have passed very quickly when I look at it now. However, it makes me very happy to see that I live it to the fullest when I take part in the struggle of life. I would like to thank the esteemed faculty members of the Department of Civil Engineering of Istanbul Kültür University, the instructors in the Department of English Preparatory, and all my friends with whom I have memories, for their contribution to me during this 5-year period.

Head of Department of Architecture Prof. Dr. Esin Kasapoğlu attended the TED Zonguldak College Career Day event on Monday, January 10, at 13.30. Organized by TED Zonguldak College High School Directorate and Counseling Service, the event aims to introduce students to various business fields and professions through successful academicians alumni. Prof. Dr. Esin Kasapoğlu shared her school days at TED Zonguldak College, her story of becoming an architect, the profession of architecture and the points to be considered when choosing architecture departments, as part of the Career Day in the field of Architecture. Our teacher also answered the questions from the students.

Res. Assist. İdil Akkuzu of Department of Architecture attended the final jury of “Project I” course given in the Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture. In the jury the projects created in the scope of "3R Reuse-Recycle-Repair" by the first-year students of Departments of Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning and Landscape Architecture were discussed.

The English Literature Club will organize a film screening event to increase interaction among members. The event, in which the 2011 movie Drive directed by Nicolas Winding Refn will be watched, will be held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Monday, January 17th at 15.00.

Department of Library and Documentation will organize a webinar titled Literature Review Techniques and Practical Research Tips to answer questions of “What is the way to reach reliable academic resources in today's extreme information environment?” and “What are the methods and tools that will facilitate the literature review?”. The event, where Uğurcan Özkan from EBSCO Information Services will be the speaker, will be held on Wednesday, January 19 at 14.00 on the CATS platform.

Could you briefly describe yourself? Who is Res. Assist. Tamer Gümüş in 2-3 sentences?

Frankly, it is hard for one to describe her/himself, at least for me... I was born in 1993, Bakırköy. I graduated from Bahçelievler Anatolian High School in 2011. The same year, I won Istanbul Kültür University the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. I quitted my master’s degree program six months after starting it following my graduation in 2015. I did my military service after working for 6-7 months. Afterwards, I have studied for various examinations. That is to say, after graduation, I have returned to Istanbul Kültür University in 2017 with lots of experiences. Nowadays I am continuing my doctorate program at Yıldız Technical University.

How did your participation in Kültür Family evolve?

My participation in Kültür Family evolved with me winning the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2011. Even though I left the school after my graduation in 2015, returning to it was always in my mind. Some may know, students who exercise projects spend more time in school. Weekends, summer holidays and even some religious holidays… When spending this long time in school, one starts to embrace the school as one’s home. I have returned for my master’s degree program after 2 years. During this process, I have started to work as a research assistant in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.

What are the things that IKU adds to you?

The most important thing IKU adds to my life is learning how to work while having fun without a doubt. The reason for this might be us having less time for fun 😊. There were times, both during my master’s program and in my professional life, where we left the laboratory in the middle of the night and came back before the sun rose in the morning. However, in all of them, we found a way to stay positive and have fun as a team.

As Walsh shows, it is precisely this feature of persons that makes it possible for us to know and communicate with others, for we can only give and receive one another as persons. In this way alone can we become friends and, in friendship, build community.By showing how the person is modernity's central preoccupation, David Walsh's The Priority of the Person makes an important contribution to current discussions in both political theory and philosophy. It will also appeal to students and scholars of theology and literature, and any groups interested in the person and personalism.
