Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Head of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver published a message regarding the İKÜ agenda which has changed with the New Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

My Dear Kültür Family,

We have left behind a tough 15 days in which we had to make perhaps the most sensitive and critical decisions of the year. Health, economy and social life were seriously affected by the second wave. In this process, we, as the Kültür family, reviewed some decisions and shared them with you. We took a break from working on the campus to which we gradually moved in May until 14 December 2020. However, the economic recession, which is a side effect of the pandemic, has also created radical changes in our work patterns. We launched two applications: unpaid leave and transition to part-time work. I want you to know that every decision we take and convey is emotionally harsh for all of us and our entire family.

My Dear Kültür Family,

As well as we keep our hopes high that the pandemic crisis will pass, we have to be prepared for some facts. Hope, for sure, is always there, but it seems that 2021 will be the year of struggling with the crisis. We will continue to exist in all areas of life within our means to overcome the pandemic. What we hope is that our country and the world overcome this crisis with the least damage as soon as possible. However, in both short and medium terms, it seems that the pandemic will make its weight heavily felt on us. Therefore, we should focus more on using technology in the most effective way in our business and education processes and improving our skill sets in this regard. The coordinated work of academic and administrative staff in the remote working process is a fundamental issue in recovery from the crisis. Another responsibility of ours is to keep the distribution of our workloads and our plans up-to-date according to events and conditions, without compromising the health principle. Agility in inter-team solidarity, initiative and decision-making mechanisms is vital in times of crisis. The way to manage the side effects of the second wave in the most gentle way is possible by being focused on conscious awareness, solidarity and communication.

2021 will be a year in which instant decisions can be made and change rapidly across the country. Now we must increase our capacity for adaptation and flexibility. We should diversify remote and campus working scenarios according to the needs of our business. Health and safety is our priority in all academic or administrative processes. For this reason, let's take care to design all our existing work together with Plan B in case of a possible change. Differences of opinion, dilemmas, debates, ups and downs in our communications will surely occur in this process. In such times; let's focus on deciding what works best for all of us, without personalizing, deviating from purpose. At this stage, your health is very important during the remote working period that we plan until December 14, 2020. In case of a possible risk, I would like to ask you to keep in-team dialogue tight and to keep in regular contact with the Health Unit.

My Dear Kültür Family,

Psychiatrist Dr. Gülcan Özer was the Kültür Family’s guest on Wednesday, 2 December 2020. The interest of our university in the e-seminar with the theme “Everyone is the Hero of Their Own Life” made me so happy. These days when we are trying to cope with situations such as panic, anxiety and loss of control, I hope Dr. Özer's conversation has been a little good for all of us. This event, which brought us together in a nice chat environment, was the product of a strong collaboration. I would like to thank all my colleagues who supported the event as our Faculty of Science and Letters Department of Psychology, Department of Corporate Communication, Kültür Point, Department of Information Systems and Technologies. As Kültür Family, we will continue to meet with new names who will offer us a different perspective in this period. As I shared in my previous message, I ask you to convey your suggestions on this subject to our Department of Corporate Communication.

In the next two weeks, when the work-life balance will be re-established at the home center, the hygiene studies of our campuses will continue. I wholeheartedly believe that you will carry out this period in which our administrative processes will continue digitally in the best way with the spirit of solidarity. We will continue to share the decisions we will take according to the data of the new wave after December 14, 2020, through our Rectorate and General Secretariat.

The award ceremony and colloquium of the 7th "MEKAN2020 Interior Architecture Students National Graduation Project Competition" organized by the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design this year was held online on Monday, December 7 at 20:00 via Microsoft Teams.

The opening speeches were made by our Rector Prof. Dr.  Erhan Güzel, Dean of Architecture Faculty Prof. Dr. Neslihan Dostoğlu and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department Head Prof. Dr. Gülay Usta at the award ceremony, and the students who won awards and honorable mentions were announced after the speech made by the representative of the main sponsor company.

At the colloquium moderated by Interior Architect Jale Kulin after the award ceremony; jury members Prof. Dr. Gülay Usta, Prof. Dr. İnci Deniz Ilgın, Prof. Dr. Burçin Cem Arabacıoğlu, Prof. Dr. Rana Kutlu, designer Tanju Özelgin, Architect Levent Çırpıcı, Architect Görkem Volkan, Interior Architect Cem Cemal Çobanoğlu, Assist. Prof. Rahşan Karabetça and Lecturer Merve Aşcıoğlu made statements about the evaluation process of the competition. The event, which was held with wide participation, ended after the question and answer session.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School, with the understanding of "Human First" and with the intention of making the students motivated, making them rethink, and bringing them into society as individuals with broad visions by bringing together the concepts of "Culture-Art-Humor and Human" that individuals need, organized series of workshops. And the guest of this month’s series of workshops was Ertuğrul Karslıoğlu. At the event held through Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application on Friday, December 4; The students were given new perspectives by talking about every subject from real documentarism to today's realities. During the seminar, Karslıoğlu emphasized that the real treasure and what makes us happy are our past and our elders living in our past. Karslıoğlu said that recording every moment we spent with them was a blessing for us, and that real stories and documentaries always come from these memories. Our students, who had the opportunity to listen to the memory of Ertuğrul Karslıoğlu, who touched Lecturer Tayfun Belet's life, both had fun and gained a new perspective. Karslıoğlu talked about the processes of documentarism by explaining the difficulties of real documentarism in Turkey;  and mentioning that it is a laborious job. At the end of the seminar, Ertuğrul Karslıoğlu and our students agreed to meet face to face at our university after the global pandemic process.

Director Eylem Kaftan, a graduate of Kültür College, was the guest of the "Sector Meetings" organized within the scope of the "Cinema and TV Management'' course conducted by Assist. Prof. Nagihan Çakar Bikiç in the Department of Communication and Design. The event, titled "KOVAN Movie and Production Processes", was held on Thursday, December 3, at 15:00 on CATS.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School organized an e-seminar titled "New Trends in Air Conditioning Industry" on Monday, November 30, 2020. Form Group of Companies Head of Executive Board Tunç Korun who attended the event that was conducted by Lecturer Halide Serpil Karakuş, Head of the Air Conditioning and Cooling Technology Program, and Lecturer Ayşegül Berrak Köten, Head of the Banking and Insurance Evening Education Program shared his knowledge and experience about new trends, technologies and methodologies used in the air conditioning industry. Korun who answered the questions of all our students participated in the event, also advised those who want to have a career in the air conditioning industry.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School Head of Banking and Insurance Second Education Program Lecturer Ayşegül Berrak Köten presented her paper titled “Determination of Factors Affecting Stock Market Performance of Real Estate Investment Partners Processed in BIST: Panel Regression Analysis” at the "International Congress of Management, Economy and Policy 2020 - ICOMEP'20" held on 5-6 December 2020. 

Hello, I'm Cagla. I enrolled in Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Law in 2011. Although it is not compulsory in my department, I studied preparation class.

I started my department with the completion of the preparatory class in 2012. Our University School of Law has Turkey's best academic staff. This was one of the main reasons why I chose our university. Professors attended almost every lecture.

I would like to thank my dear teacher Assoc. Prof. Cem Akbıyık, who made me love law with his "Civil Law" course, which is the basis of private law in the first year.

I attended the 19th International Human Rights Academy within the scope of the Criminal Law Application and Research Center (CEHAMER). I held meetings with those who wanted to enroll in our school by taking part in university promotions.

During my student life, I tried to improve my reasoning skills and practical experience by doing an internship with lawyers with strong notion of law for one month each summer.

I graduated from IKU in 2016. In 2017, after completing my law internship, we opened our office named BLT Law & Consultancy - Mediation in Bakırköy with my father, who was a retired judge. I am still working as a lawyer here.

While waiting for my criminal case in the first year of my profession, I was watching the hearings of the same court. I came across the case of a murdered (deceased) woman and her lawyer was affiliated with the We Will Stop Femicide Platform. I was already very sensitive to these issues, but I realized that I did not work with any non-governmental organization and voluntarily wanted to help women in need. I acted immediately and became a member of this platform. Today, I am voluntarily entering femicide cases as part of the platform.

Afterwards, I wanted to reach more women, to take part in more women's struggle, to be a partner of more solidarity. And I wanted to be a member of the Mor Çatı Women's Shelter Foundation, a women's non-governmental organization working with high devotion in this field. In accordance with the principles of our foundation, I voluntarily provide legal support to women who are victims of male violence within the body of Mor Çatı, receiving various trainings.

This is how I realized my desire to work in the field of children: I was a female representative in a divorce case. One day I got a terrible phone call. We learned that the male husband we filed for divorce has been raping the woman's sister for 10 years. We immediately got the man arrested as a complainant. We ensured that he received a heavy sentence and he is still under arrest. It was my first sexual abuse file and there were thousands of footage and video footage. The other party was making such defenses to get rid of crime that we had a great legal struggle at every hearing.

Thanks to this file, I maintain my calmness and professionalism in such cases. It was neither a case, nor a struggle… The request for release from the prosecutor at every hearing, our efforts to persuade my client and judges who fainted...

After this file, I became a member of Istanbul Bar Association Child Rights Center and started to work actively. I am currently the General Secretary of the Istanbul Bar Association Child Rights Center.

Presidential elections for the Istanbul Bar Association were held in 2018. I also worked in the elections for our presidential candidate and we won. In this context, I am also Istanbul Bar Association Bakırköy Regional Representative.

I am at the very beginning of the road and I have career goals that I want to achieve. I want to stay in school as a research assistant. Maybe I will achieve this goal in my own university.

This is my graduate story briefly. It all comes true when you set your goals and start to work. Never lose hope, do not give up.

Within the scope of Internal Trainer Training and Development Program  "Understanding Professional Learning Through Planning and Design 4.0" training was held for Türkiye Hayat Emeklilik ve Türkiye Sigorta employees by İKÜSEM Director Lecturer Zafer Erkoç

Head of the Program of Public Relations and Publicity Gözde Kuzu brought Efe Anğın and Burak Özcan from the Effective Communication Club together with the students. Answering the questions of students who are considering transitioning from the Program of Public Relations and Publicity to the Communication Arts, Anğın and Özcan shared their experiences on the activities, collaborations and effective presentation techniques of the Effective Communication Club.

In the "Tombs of Istanbul Design Competition" organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Cultural Heritage, the team including Canan Ganiç, a graduate of Istanbul Kültür University Department of Architecture, and Musa Can Çilek, came in second with the tomb projects they designed for Eremya Çelebi Kömürciyan. We congratulate our graduates and wish them continued success.

The “September-October-November-December Monthly Journal” has been prepared by İstanbul Kültür University Alumni Association (IKUMED).

Within the context of “Cooperation Culture” given by Lecturer Berrak Köten from the Department of Communication Arts, a workshop, in which Tuğçe Oral, Customer Group Director of Goodworks Communication Consultancy, has organised on December 8, Friday 2020. Pointing out the importance of business connections and internal communication in the communication sector, Oral explained the networking and in-house project works with examples. Providing advice to our students who are planning a career in the field of communication, Oral explained the issues that need to be taken into account in internal communication and networking through global and local brands. Students interactively participated in the workshop where applied projects of corporate reputation management were shared. Topics such as internal communication, the importance of corporate reputation and crisis communication were addressed during the two-week workshop courses, and current examples were included.

The article titled "Painting and Mathematics" by Assist Prof. Reyhan Uludağ Eraslan, an academician of the Department of Arts and Culture Management & İKÜSAG Manager, is published in the sixth issue of the magazine "YA / DA (Education or Education)" published by the Ministry of National Education.

Within the scope of the "Documentary Film Management" course conducted by Assist Prof. Nagihan Çakar Bikiç from the Department of Communication and Design, an e-talk titled "The Journey of a Documentary from the Idea Stage to the Screening" was held. The event, where Documentary Association Member Director Yasin Ali Türkeri was a speaker, was held on Friday, December 4, at 13:00 on CATS.

The Department of Foreign Languages Education organized an e-panel titled “New Trends in ELT” to inform students about the latest developments in foreign language education. Prof. Dr. The event, attended by Birsen Tütüniş and Assist. Prof. Taj Bakhsh Hosseini as speakers, and Lecturer Doğuş Aydın, was held on Friday, November 20 between 11.00-16.00 on CATS.

Within the scope of the "Entrepreneurship" course conducted by Assist. Prof. Nagihan Çakar Bikiç in the Department of Communication and Design, an e-conversation was held under the title of "I Have a Good Idea, I Want to Create a Brand." The event, in which Founder of Mutlu Diyet and Mutlu Çiftlik Brands, Author & Diet and Nutrition Expert Çağatay Demir was a speaker, was held on Friday, December 4, at 17:00 over CATS.

Assist. Prof. Nagihan Çakar Bikiç, an academician at the Faculty of Art and Design Faculty of Communication and Design, published an article titled "Pandemic Effect: An Assessment on Short Film Festivals and the Transformation Experienced" in Gümüşhane University Faculty of Communication, Electronic Journal (E-Gı̇fder).

The article titled "Econometrics and Machine Learning: Evaluations in Terms of Choice Models and Classification Algorithms" by Res. Assist. Elanur Türküz, one of the lecturers of the Entrepreneurship Department, was published in the Social Sciences Research Journal.

Lecturer Dr. Gökhan Kırbaç, Head of the Program of Air Logistics at IKU Vocational School, presented his paper titled “The Role of Virtual Reality and Blockchain Technology in Realizing Digital Transformation in Businesses” at the “2. International Conference on Virtual Reality (VR2020)” organized online by Harran University on 15-16 November 2020.

The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences will organize an e-seminar titled “A New World: Artificial Intelligence in Social Sciences” in order to introduce students to artificial intelligence and discuss the role of social scientists in the field of artificial intelligence and the expectations of the sectors from artificial intelligence. The event, where Onur Koç from Microsoft will be a speaker, will be held on Monday, December 14, at 18:00 on the CATS platform.

IKU Vocational School (MYO) will organize an e-seminar titled " Training Methods in the New Normal" in order to support students' career planning processes. The event, in which General Manager of IELEV Educational Institutions Burak Kılanç and IELEV Manager of Educational Institutions Educational Technologies Yonca Özgün will be speakers, will be held on Monday, December 14, between 18.00-20.00 on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

IKU Kültür Point will organize the "Academy of Today and Future’s Kültür of Life" in order to increase the interaction with the students who cannot come to the campuses due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to keep the connection with their schools strong. Animation Producer and Cartoonist Varol Yaşaroğlu will be the third guest of the event program, where TV Program Producer and Presenter Hülya Aydın will be the moderator. IKU Vocational School (MYO) will organize an e-seminar to evaluate subjects such as the hospitality sector, accommodation trends, tourist requests and employee criteria, which are expected to change from COVID-19. The event, where Bilgili Holding's Fercan President will be a speaker, will be held on Wednesday, December 16, between 17.00-19.00, over the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

IKU Vocational School (MYO) will organize an e-seminar titled “Risk Management in Banking: A Horizon Tour” in order to inform students about financial risks and new trends in the banking sector. The event, where Prof. Dr. Burak Saltoğlu, a faculty member of the Department of Economics from Boğaziçi University, will be a speaker, will be held on Thursday, December 17th at 20.30 via Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

Istanbul Kültür University Student’s Life, Career and Alumni Unit (Kültür Point) will organise “Philosophy of Mathematics and Thought Workshop” in order to discuss the ways of thinking the unthinkable reaching the answer without questioning. The workshop, tutorized by Numan Aydınoğlu Informatics and Management Consultant, will be held on December 18 Friday, between 16.00-18.00 on CATS.

Culture Point will organize a workshop to develop creative thinking skills of our students. The event, which will be held under the lecturing of Mücella Ezgin, Unit Vice President of Kültür Point, will be held on Friday, December 18 at 17:00 on the CATS platform.

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) will organize an e-seminar titled “Factors Involved in the Beneficial Effects on Fasting on Exercise” to discuss the effects of hunger and exercise processes on metabolism in terms of obesity and diabetes. The event, where Assoc. Prof. Pieter De Lange will be a speaker, will be held on Friday, December 18 at 18:00 on the CATS platform.

Under the trainer of Architect & Pilates Instructor İrem Acarkan, an "Online Pilates Class" event will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020, between 21.00-22.00 for IKU Faculty of Architecture students.

The quota is limited in the activity which aims to increase the morale-motivation of the students who are under more stress than ever during the pandemic period. Students who want to register are required to send an e-mail to p.cetken@iku.edu.tr until December 16, 2020.

Can you briefly describe yourself? Who is Assist. Prof. Arzu Eceoğlu with 2-3 sentences?

In short, we can say that she is an academic in love with the profession of Interior Architecture and education. I have completed my undergraduate, graduate and art qualification titles in the discipline of Interior Architecture. I am a person who believes in professional development and continuous renewal. It is my greatest passion to teach what I have learned to my students and to share it with other academics and colleagues.
