The story of Umut Ünlü, one of our senior students in the Vocational School Program of Business Management, whose media content editing and media relations process is carried out by the Department of Corporate Communications, provided with the support of the Student Communication Kültür Point and the Disabled Student Unit, was published in the Posta newspaper on Tuesday, April 6 with the title "There is always hope".

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School signed an academic cooperation agreement with Valahia of Targoviste-Romania University within the scope of the "Entrepreneurial and Innovative" university. In this context, Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School joined the conference named "12th Supply Chain Management for Efficient Consumer Response Conference" chaired by Lecturer Dr. Gökhan Kırbaç, Head of Program of Air Logistics, as a "Co-Organizer". Cranfield University from England and Regis universities from USA are also present at the conference as "Co-Organizer".

The conference, which will be held for the twelfth time this year, will be held online on 21-22 October 2021 with the theme "Building Supply and Demand Network Resilience Through Digital Transformation".

Istanbul Kültür University Department of Library and Documentation Head Yasemin Balcı gave an interview to DHA within the scope of the 29 March-4 April Library Week. Pointing out that the digitalization process has accelerated in libraries with the pandemic, Balcı said that the habit created with the advantages of using electronic resources will continue after the pandemic. 

Yasemin Balcı said, “The 57th Library Week is celebrated between 29 March and 4 April. The main theme of this year's library week is on the pandemic and libraries. Following the announcement of the pandemic, libraries all over the world were closed, and with the transition to the distance education system, we had to move the reference services we provided as the library to the virtual environment. Reference services are a service that tells users how to use resources. While we were providing this service face to face before the pandemic, we started to provide it online during the pandemic process. We even continued this service with phones and e-mails." 

Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Architecture is organizing a Photography Contest for High School Students with the theme "Home Life in Pandemic" between 8-30 April 2021. The deadline for the competition, which is open to all high school students affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, is Friday, April 30, 2021. 

Students who want to participate in the competition should:

- follow @ikumimarlikbolumu and @ikuicmimarlikbolumu Instagram pages.

- share the photo taken within the scope of the "Home Life in Pandemic" theme with the hashtag #ikuhome on their personal Instagram account and by tagging 3 friends who are students in high schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.

At the end of the competition, 6 works, which will be selected by the jury members for the final voting, will be put to open voting for 24 hours on Monday, May 3, 2021. Participants with the highest three votes will be awarded.

In order for the participants to meet all the specified conditions and to access their designs, their Instagram accounts must not be in the private mode until May 6, 2021.

The responsibility belongs to the participant if the work submitted to the contest is not an original work, there is a contrary claim and third parties claim a right on the design.

In the event that a contrary situation is determined within the scope of the conditions stated above, the relevant designs are disqualified from the competition, and the award, i̇f won, will be taken back by Istanbul Kültür University.

The language of the competition is Turkish.

IKU Vocational School Program of Opticianry organized a webinar titled “Contact Lenses” on Friday, April 2th. Johnson & Johnson Turkey Vision Care Medical Account Manager Dilara Doğan, Medical Account Manager Gülçin Şentürk, Area Sales Manager Serhan Par, Professional Education and Development Manager Banu Arslan, Marketing Manager Pınar Yiğiter Sobacı and Eye Diseases Specialist Op. Dr. Hakan Özkan attended the event as a speaker. The students showed great interest in the event, whose moderator was Lecturer Emin Aksan, an academic of the Program of Opticianry.

It was emphasized in the webinar that giving the prescription to the patient correctly is an important factor. The importance of prescription was emphasized by both the physician and the optician, and detailed up-to-date information on contact lens prescription was provided. Information was given about contact lenses, written parameters, visual defects, diameter, astigmatism, technology features. Acuvue brand philosophy; Up-to-date technical information about the design inspired by the review was conveyed. The importance of UV protection has been emphasized. Statements were made about Hydrogel and Silicone Hydrogel Acuvue brand contact lenses.

In the event, in which the latest technological information about Acuvue Oasys Family contact lenses was detailed, the importance of using them by active people who stay long hours in air-conditioned environments against digital screens was emphasized. Acuvue Moist Multifocal lenses, which develop technological products produced according to refractive errors, were introduced by expressing that the contact lens gives a sense of absence with oxygen permeability, high flexibility and breathability, and it was explained that features including differences for near vision were added.

Explaining why daily contact lenses are preferred and what should be considered in their use, our guests conveyed to the audience that Acuvue Oasys with Transitions lenses are known as light-knowing contact lenses. I first completed my undergraduate education in a beautiful school with its teachers and student profile. Having graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature of a well-established university like Istanbul Kultur University provided an advantage while being hired.

In my department at IKU, I learned to see not one but multiple aspects of an event with an open mind. I have acquired the 'making presentation' skills required in business life. IKU has also contributed greatly to the increase of my general cultural level.

Looking back, I have never forgotten, I will never forget the "English Theater" play we performed with our teacher Esin Akalın. This is one of my best memories in my life. In addition, all the literature lessons we have taught and the theater plays we went with our teachers are memories that I will not forget.

Hi 😃. If you are reading this article right now and studying at Kültür, I think you should be lucky. And if you're still a student, you should definitely enjoy it. People miss this later and unfortunately cannot go back and live those times again. 

It was a bit of a coincidence that I met with Kültür, but fortunately it happened. I miss all of my friends and lecturers very much. If we come to the subject of advertising; After the 2nd grade, I read willingly and fondly. It was a very enjoyable part. I had lecturers who we were like great friends. We still communicate with many of them. 

Another reason that I love Kültür is undoubtedly its student clubs 😄.  During my student life, we did very well with the "Cultural Replicts Theater Club". Sometimes we played games, sometimes we helped others. We painted and installed our decors. We participated in competitions. I feel lucky to be able to take part in every phase of it. 

At that time, I saw the benefit of my minor in the Department of Graphics in my business life. Yes, it is important to have fun while studying, but it is also important to improve yourself. If you are only interested in your own department, there will be many people who graduate from that department like you in the future. What's important point that sets you apart from the rest? You have to decide this and go on it. 

After graduation, I had no difficulty finding a job. But the reason for this is that I actually did a lot of internships and took part in activities while I was studying. It is very important to keep your network wide. Because you see that one thing leads to another and you get the opportunity to work wherever you want. 

I am currently working as a Social Media Manager in Havaş Istanbul. Being active on platforms such as career pages and Linkedin provides great benefits in finding a job. Even while you are studying, you can think about "Where can I work in the future", "Which positions are suitable for me" and, if possible, you can experience internships in all of them and use your preference in the field you like. 

I am sure it will benefit you a lot. Because when you graduate, you will not start out with thinking “what I will do now ?”. You will say "I know what to do". Anyway, when you do these, life somehow takes you away 😄.

Program of Civil Air Transport Management and Civil Aircraft Services Head Assist. Prof. H.Neyir Tekeli's article titled "Women’s Enterpreneurship and Tourism Under The Scope of Sustainbility in Turkey: Swot Analysis of the Current Problems"  was published in the International Journal of Social, Humanities and Administrative Sciences. 

International Law Club organized a webinar titled "Law in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" on the Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application on April 6-7, 2021. Atty. Selin Çetin, Attty. Fehmi Ünsal Özmestik and Lecturer Zülküf Çetin attended the event as speakers. In the first session of the event, which was held in 2 sessions, information was given on the legal and criminal liability of artificial intelligence. In the second session, the past, future and risks of crypto money were discussed. The event ended with a question-answer session.

Lecturer Ayşegül Berrak Köten, Head of Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School Banking and Insurance Second Education Program, presented her paper titled “Türk Bankacılık Sektöründe Dijital Bankacılık Hizmetleri Açısından Müşteri Profilinin Değerlendirilmesi / Evaluation of Customer Profile in terms of Digital Banking Services in the Turkish Banking Sector” at the “4th International Social Sciences” congress that was held under the theme of "Reflections of Digital Transformation on Social Sciences" on April 7-8, 2021 by the Center for Economic, Political and Strategic Studies TESAM.

Lecturer Ayşegül Berrak Köten, Head of Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School Banking and Insurance Second Education Program presented her paper titled “Pandemi Döneminde Bankacılık Sektörünün Likidite Yapısının Etkinlik Analizi / Efficiency Analysis of the Liquidity Structure of Banking Sector During the Pandemic Period" at “The International Symposium on Business, Economics & Education, ISBE 2021 which was held with the theme of “The Challenges Surrounding COVID-19 Pandemic: Economic, Social and Behavioral Response to Epidemic” on 7-8 April, 2021.   

The concept of long or short term "nomadism" in urban and rural areas was discussed at the "Göçebe: Assembly Workshop" held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 under the leadership of Assist. Prof.  Asiye Akgün Gültekin, Assist. Prof. Esin Hasgül, Res. Assist. Merve Aksoy Oral and Res. Assist. Dilara Gür in the Department of Architecture. Following the general lecture in the workshop, related readings were given and the students were asked to share their general ideas on the subject before starting their studies. By looking at the subject through children's spaces, "montage" studies were carried out with the theme of "Seeking Play through the Eyes of Children" through photographs of alternative urban and rural areas. Discussions were held on the holistic image, architectural representation and architecture formed through the productions.

The Architecture Department organized an e-seminar titled "Career Opportunities in Construction Companies for Architects" on Monday, April 5, 2021 within the scope of the "Quality in Building Production Process" course conducted by Assist. Prof. Gamze Alptekin. Barış İnşaat A.Ş. Construction Director Hakan Ketenci who participated in the event as a speaker conveyed the responsibilities that architects can undertake in construction companies to students. The seminar was completed after the question and answer session.

The annual review visit of IKU Department of Foreign Languages English Preparatory Class Pearson Assured Accreditation was held on Thursday, April 8, 2021. The review process was successfully completed during the online visit via Teams.

IKU IEEE Student Club will organize a webinar titled "BIOCULTURE" in order to inform students about the different areas of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. The event, which will be attended by expert academics and scientists in their fields, will be held on April 10-11 at 12.30 on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

A “From Story to Scene Writing Workshop” will be organized by Istanbul Kültür University Fine Arts Application and Research Center (GSUAM). The Department of English Language and Literature will organize a webinar titled “Why and How Are Peoples Ruled the Way They Deserve? Or Who, Why, How Did Awaken the Beast? " to inform students about the relationship between comics and literature. The event, where Lecturer Mehmet Emin Adanalı from Boğaziçi University will be a speaker, will be held on Monday, April 12 at 15:00 over CATS.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics will organize a series of interviews over CATs in order to increase the practical competence of 4th grade students who are in the internship stage in the field of child health and diseases. The fifth guest of the activities, where practical trainings will be given by expert colleagues, will be Expert Dietician Nevin Avhan on Monday, April 12 at 18:00 with the title of Type 1 Diabetes and Carbohydrate Count.

Can you briefly describe yourself? Who is Assist Prof. Alp Ayan with 2-3 sentences?

Alp Ayan; father of Linda and Pars is an academic who has been in academic life since 2007, has been interested in basketball and chess as an amateur, graduated from Pertevniyal High School and Istanbul University, and whose path crossed with the Kültür Family in 2010.

How has your participation in the Kültür Family developed?

The memories of Kültür Family date back to before I joined. When I was a teenager when I played basketball as an amateur, I was constantly passing by Kültür College while I was going to Ataköy Spor's training sessions and it aroused me a great curiosity. In those years the concept of "college" was not as common and accessible as it is today. When I started my academic life over the years, when I was going to Istanbul University, I realized that this time I was curious about this Kültür Family, who came from a small age, when I was passing in front of the university. I saw that the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics was established in Istanbul Kültür University with the information of my advisor lecturer from Istanbul University and that the founding academicians consisted of valuable people such as Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan and Prof. Dr. Çimen Atak who attended the lectures of our professors at Istanbul University and gave their consultancy. I applied when the research assistant staff was opened in the third year of the foundation of the department in 2010 and since then I have been a part of the Kültür Family. 

What are the things that IKU contributes to you? 

By providing a free research environment, being open to and encouraging innovation, IKU provided the most important environment that could be needed as a researcher in Molecular Biology and Genetics. In addition, having worked with our Founding Head of the Department Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan, whom I have always listened to from my professors at Istanbul University and whom we lost too soon, has provided me with important professional gains. These achievements continue with our current academic staff with whom I work.

Is there an unforgettable memory in the Kültür part of your life?

Many firsts, including my first lesson related to my working life, will come unforgettable throughout my life, as I live as a member of Kültür. Of course, I have had many memories that I will never forget with my colleagues. But I think I can put my first acquaintance with my wife in Kültür at the top of this ranking.
