Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Publishing House continues to bring selections from Oxford University Press's world-famous series "A Very Short Introductions" into Turkish. The number of books published in Turkish from the series reached 16 with "French Revolution", "Ancient Warfare", "Modern Art" and "Hegel" from the "A Very Short Introductions" series, which offers introductory information to students, educators and enthusiasts.

After nearly two years of distance education, the campuses of Istanbul Kültür University became active with face-to-face education. On the first day of the 2021-2022 Academic Year Fall Semester, we witnessed the 'new normal' in the campuses. In order to feel out our students at the İncirli campus of Istanbul Kültür University, an interview was held about how they felt on the first day of school. The poster designs created by our IKU Vocational School Program of Graphic Design 2021 graduate students Elanur Fırat and Şule Sancak in their Advertising Animation class were among the first 100 works selected in the 2nd Bolu International Poster Design Competition with the theme of "New Diamond Water". The designs selected from 1350 posters from 48 countries are also among the 11 works selected from Turkey. We congratulate our students and strongly believe that their success will continue to increase.

The film, which was produced in 2021, continues its festival journey in the national and international arena.

The academic staff and students of the Department of Architecture came together at the Orientation Program held online on September 14, 2021. We thank the students for their participation.

Students of the IKU Vocational School Program of Air Logistics are entitled to receive the certificates prepared by the Liderlik Okulu and approved by international accreditation bodies in the scope of the “YHL 2006 Strategical Management in Aviation Course” given in the 2020-2021 Academic Year Spring Semester. The certificates were presented by the Head of IKU Vocation School Assist. Prof. Sinan Kesici, Lecturer Dr. Gökhan Kırbaç, Head of the Program of Logistics, and Dr. Erkut Ergenç, Founder of the Liderlik Okulu.

Kültür Point will organize 1st Level Turkish Sign Language Education in order to raise awareness about the deaf and hearing impaired in the society and to contribute to the personal and professional development of our students. The training, which will be given by trainer Gökben Keleş, will be held on 11-12 October between 15.00-18.00 in Ataköy campus.

Istanbul Kültür University Department of Architecture continues to bring famous architects together with its students and the architectural environment. The first guest of the 2021-2022 Academic Year Fall Semester will be Architect Abdurrahman Celik, one of the founding partners of Baraka Architecture Office. The conference will be held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Monday, October 11, 2021, at 15.00.

Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design will organize a seminar series directed by Prof. Dr. Gülay Usta within the scope of the "İÇM3032 Space Knowledge" course. All of our students are invited to the seminars that will be held online on the CATS Meeting platform.

The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design will organize a seminar titled “What is Going on in the Office?” in the scope of “İÇM0311-İÇM0412 Interior Architecture Project III-IV” The seminar which will be given by Master Interior Architect Refia Anıl Ağrılı, is on October 12, Tuesday, at 15.00 via CATS Meeting Platform online. All of our students are invited to the seminar.

Istanbul Kültür University Art Gallery (IKUSAG) is opening the season with the Face to Face Painting Exhibition of Painter Sema Barlas. The opening of the exhibition will be held on 13 October 2021 at 15.00 at the IKÜSAG Exhibition Hall.

Özer Ulukaya is the curator of the exhibition, which will meet with art lovers until November 10, 2021.

The exhibition can be visited within the framework of the pandemic rules.

ABOUT SEMA BARLAS

Sema Barlas was born in Istanbul. (1979) She graduated from Ottawa School of Art in Canada. One of the important painters of figurative art, Barlas continues her works in her workshop in İzmir Köprü.

Sema Barlas has been making original works in the field of figurative by constantly improving herself since she started painting. The artist usually works in medium and large sizes. In her paintings, a distinct philosophical depth is observed. In the multi-subject structure of the figures (in fact, we can call it multi-subject production), facial expressions manifest themselves through basic reasons such as stagnation, identity and memory loss. The artist uses an acrylic technique on canvas. However, she also partially uses the frotaj technique. In order to make the texture on the canvas visible, frotage emphasizes the sense of asynchrony with the texture look. It focuses on the immanent formality of the expression of the figures from their own fields of abstraction with the textural / experiential technique. Instead of an anatomical beauty in the works of the artist, the philosophical expansion of this emerges with intellectual and emotional touches.

The training, which will be given by Instructor Gökben Keleş, will be held on October 13-14, between 16.30-19.30 in İncirli Campus.

In collaboration with Kültür Point and Habitat Association; A training program titled "My Sister in Kültür" will be organized to equip women with the knowledge and skills necessary for their participation in the economic life and to support them taking an active role in the economic development. The second of the program will be held by Instructor Meltem Ertürk on Wednesday, October 13 at 18:00 on Microsoft Teams with the title "Security Education in the Digital World".

Express Science Club will organize an event titled “Watch with Express” in order to increase the interaction of club members with each other. The event in which there is a movie screening on October 13, Wednesday between 19.00-21.00 will be hosted by Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

"Correspondence and Assignment Language Education" will be organized in collaboration with the Effective Communication Club, +1 Down and Autism Awareness Club, New Media and Communication Club, Program of Public Relations and Publicity, Department of New Media and Communication and Department of Communication Arts. In the event, in which Efe Anğın, Head of the Effective Communication Club and Burak Özcan, Vice Head of the Effective Communications Club are the speakers, will be on October 13, Wednesday at 20.00 via CATS.

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Student Life, Career and Alumni Advisory Unit (Kültür Point) will organize the "Philosophy of Mathematics and Thought Workshop" in order to discuss ways to reach the result without questioning the unthinkable. The workshop, in which ideas from the past to the present and the future will be conveyed by using mathematical symbols, will be held by Instructor Numan Aydınoğlu on Thursday, October 14, between 15.00-18.30, at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall.

The Law Club will visit Eren & Gonce Law Bureau in Beşiktaş to introduce the students of the Faculty of Law about the professions they can do after graduation. At the event which will be on Friday, October 15 at 14.00, Atty. Gizem Gonce will be presented with flowers and a memorial plate.

Kültür Point will organize “Diction and Effective Body Language Education” which aims for its participants to speak Turkish effectively and use body language correctly. The education, which will be given by Instructor İlknur Güneş, will be held on Friday, October 15 between 15.00-18.30 in Ataköy campus.

Could you briefly describe yourself? Who is Res. Assist. Şeyma Derdiyok in 2-3 sentences?

I was born in 1993, Sivas. I have completed all my education life in the city I was born and grew up except my graduate education. I have graduated from Sivas Selçuk Anatolian High School Department of German in 2011, Cumhuriyet University, Department of Computer Engineering in 2017. After that, I moved to Darıca with my family, with a radical decision. Soon after our moving in, I had an opportunity to work in a software development position in a company that provides health services in IT Valley. As a person, I love to do research, create, learn and even love to teach. After I have realized that what I received in my undergraduate education was not enough for me and that I had to step into the academy, which was always in my mind, I started my master's degree at Gebze Technical University in 2018 without wasting any time. I turned my route completely to university and started working as a Research Assistant in the Istanbul Kültür University the Department of Computer Engineering in 2019 after I have stayed in the sector for a while. I continue my work identity by dressing up as a student at Istanbul Kültür University earlier this year.

How did your participation in Kültür Family evolve?

I have always wanted to continue my education academically. On the other hand, I wanted to stay in the sector as well. Because as an engineer, doing things such as creating, developing, renewing yourself every time made me feel good. Furthermore, when academy and sector unite, unfortunately, not every company encourages this union. As such, I had to make a choice. So, I chose the academy. Undoubtedly, the best place to work while doing a master's degree is the university. While researching, I came across the announcement of IKU. I applied, got accepted after the exam and interview. Thus, I joined the Kültür family. I took this a little further and had my master's education, which I had to take a break for a while, taken here.

What are the things that IKU adds to you?

I have been working here since 2019. Although it may seem like a short time, I can easily divide my life into before Kültür and after Kültür. From my personal development to my professional achievements, Istanbul Kültür University has a great contribution to everything I have now. On the other hand, having the opportunity to meet and work with our valuable professors is the most important gain for an academician. With the healthy working environment it offers and the academic and administrative assignments given in the department, it is gratifying to be a little closer to professionalism in business life every day. “You should definitely be an academic,” which is my dream and which I constantly get from my undergraduate friends. IKU, where I had the opportunity to actually realize its views, has a special place for me and will always remain so.
