"Kırmızı Kanatlar" team, consisting of Istanbul Kültür University IEEE Club students, ranked 5th among 83 teams in the "Combating İHA" category according to the results of the ÖTR (Preliminary Design Report) of the TEKNOFEST competition.

Team members, who were far away from each other under pandemic conditions, came together under the roof of IKU-IEEE and participated in the competition. Our team, which went through difficult processes on this road they started in November 2020, prepared and delivered the ÖTR, which we can call the first stage of the competition. According to the results announced at the end of about 1 month, Kırmızı Kanatlar team came 5th place.

Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School Program of Banking and Insurance organized an e-seminar on May 28th 2021, Friday titled “The Insurance Sector in Turkey and Around the World.” In the seminar, which is moderated by Lecturer Ayşegül Berrak Köten, Head of the Evening Program of Banking and Insurance, General Director of Unico Sigorta A.Ş. Ahmet Sertem Demir was the guest. 

Demir, who served as the General Manager, Member of the Executive Committee and Member of the Board of Directors at Unico Sigorta A. Ş. as of January 2020, shared his assessments and experiences about the insurance industry in the world and in Turkey. Explaining Unico Sigorta's individual and corporate products, business lines, customer approach, reinsurance structure and premium sizes, Demir analyzed the insurance industry in Turkey. Demir said that the premium production in the insurance sector increased by 19.3 percent in 2020 compared to the previous year and reached 82.6 billion TL in total.

 Noting that there are a total of 60 companies in the insurance sector in life and non-life branches, our guest stated that 39 companies provide service only in non-life sectors and 21 companies in both life and non-life sectors. Evaluating the sector's premium production on the basis of branches and sales channels over the years, Demir drew a roadmap and gave advice to our students who want to pursue a career in the insurance industry. Our guest answered the questions of the participants at the end of the event.

As part of the Istanbul Kultur University Department of Architecture activities, the "Most Successful Project Awards" were given to the winners on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 17:00.

In each Fall and Spring semester, the best projects of the "Architectural Design" courses in the previous semester are determined by voting among the faculty members of the department. As a result of voting, the project with the highest votes is awarded.

The awards are given to the most successful projects in the courses (Turkish and English) of “Architectural Design 1", "Architectural Design 3", "Architectural Design 5" and "Architectural Design 7" for the Fall semesters; and "Architectural Design 2", "Architectural Design 4", "Architectural Design 6" and "Graduation Project" for the Spring semesters.

IKU Vocational School Program of E-Commerce and Marketing organized an e-seminar titled "User Experience in Digital Marketing" on Thursday, May 27, as part of the "ETP2004 Marketing Communication" course. In the event, where Brands&Clicks Founder Yılmaz Mercan was a guest, the importance of user experience in digital marketing communication was explained through examples. Mercan answered students' questions about digital marketing within the framework of his industry experience.

The 28-hour part of the Accessibility Expertise Certificate Program, which consists of 3 modules of 60 hours in total under the main headings of Awareness, Barrier-Free Design and Accessibility, has been completed.

At the end of the first 20-hour module, a quiz was administered to the participants. All participants successfully completed the first module in the exam.

Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocasakal, Prof. Dr. Köksal Bayraktar, Prof. Dr. Haluk Burcuoğlu, and Istanbul Bar Association President AAL Mehmet Durakoğlu attended the live broadcast, which was organized and directed by our graduate from start to finish. IKU Vocational School Program of Air Logistics Head Lecturer Dr. Gökhan Kırbaç presented his paper titled " The Effect of the Blockchain Technology on Service Companies and Food Retailers: An Overview of the Blockchain Use Cases and Applications" at the "Global Conference on Services and Retail Management (GLOSERV 2021)" conference organized online by the University of South Florida in the USA on May 11-13, 2021.

Wikilala is a digital library that allows "research" in Ottoman texts (newspapers, magazines, books and documents) printed after the invention of the printing press. There is currently no library that allows the curious or academic researchers to make research in Ottoman texts in Latin script. Until the age of digital printing, researchers had to scan pages and even read line by line to find what they are looking for in Ottoman texts. However, thanks to Wikilala, they can reach all the titles and content they are looking for with a single move in fractions of a second.

The Faculty of Engineering organizes the "Project Management Certificate Program" in order to disseminate international standards and methods in project management, and to support individuals-institutions who do their work with traditional and modern approaches to increase their productivity and profitability by applying project management. Could you briefly describe yourself? Who is Lecturer Ümit Engin Tekin in 2-3 sentences?

I was born on September 9, 1983 in Istanbul. I completed my undergraduate education in Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Department of Business Administration, and my master's degree in Istanbul University Technology and Industrial Economics Program. I am currently continuing my doctoral study on the subject of "New Protectionism" in the Economics and Finance Program. Since 2009, I have worked as an Instructor in part and full-time courses at various foundation universities. My academic studies have focused on foreign trade and customs; I have 9 international and national refereed articles and one book in these fields. Since 2011, I have been preparing expert reports as an Expert.

Ümit Engin Tekin, who practiced the profession he desired throughout his student life; He is someone who aims to raise competent young people with the happiness of doing what he loves, and enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter Asya, apart from his academic work.

How did your participation in Kültür Family evolve?

In the process that I have been in contact with on various occasions since my first years in the academy, the mission and academic stance of our school made me feel that I should one day work at this school and contribute to the values of the Kültür family during my work. With these feelings, I had the opportunity to work full-time as of 2019 in the family of Istanbul Kültür University Vocational School, which I attended part-time in 2012.

What are the things that IKU adds to you?

With its academic freedom and the value it places on people who love their job, Kültür family gives me the opportunity to do what I love with people I love. This environment provides me with motivation to find the better, the more beautiful and keeps me vigorous in my development process. In this respect, I am grateful to the Kultur family.

Part criticism, part memoir, Making Believe argues that there is no such thing as Mennonite art. At the same time, her close engagement with individual works of art paradoxically leads Redekop to identify a Mennonite sensibility at play in the space where artists from many cultures interact. Constant questioning and commitment to community are part of the Mennonite dissenting tradition. Although these values come up against the legacy of radical Anabaptist hostility to art, Redekop argues that the Early Modern roots of a contemporary crisis of representation are shared by all artists. Making Believe posits a Spielraum or play space in which all artists are dissembling tricksters, but differences in how we play are inflected by where we come from. The close readings in this book insist on respect for difference at the same time as they invite readers to find common ground while making believe across cultures.
