Services and Facilities

Reference Service

This is a service rendered to our users in order to ensure that they easily access information and resources in our library. This service also includes solving problems encountered by users, facilitating use of counseling resources and guiding our users.

 

Circulation Services

• Academicians, students and administrative personnel at Istanbul Culture University may borrow books from its library. Other users may not borrow library resources, but can only use them within the library.

• It is necessary to show the university ID during the borrowing process.

• Istanbul Kültür University Library may ask return of any borrowed publication before the below-mentioned periods.

• Time allowed for any borrowed material cannot be extended by other people.

• Members can extend borrowing time via internet by opening the online catalog section through their own private sessions.

• A reserved material cannot be kept more than 2 days. Any material which is not borrowed within 2 days is circulated to another reader who demands it.

• A 7-day penalty of ‘no circulation’ is imposed on users who do not return the book on time for each day of delay. 

• Reference sources (encyclopedia, dictionary, etc.), periodicals, theses, CD-ROMs shall not be circulated.

• In the event of loss of any material, if the same of the lost material is available in the market, it will be procured by the user. If unavailable in the market, the listing price plus the transaction fee is paid to the Financial Affairs Department Presidency by the losing user.

• Students, during their graduation or in the event that they are discharged from school for any reason, must receive the “dismissed” certificate from the library by returning the materials they received back to the library.

Members can extend their accounts by logining Online Catalogue section on internet.


Inter Library Loans (ILL)

It is an international system which allows circulation of publications between libraries. It is the process of providing books, which are not present in our libraries, from other university libraries that we are in cooperation with through the inter library loans (ILL) method and lending them to our users. 

• Before requesting, please check in the Library Catalogue whether the source you desire is present in our collection; otherwise, please scan other University Catalogues

After checking the type and lending status of the publication, please fill out the “Inter Library Loans” form in order to receive it.

• All IKU academicians may benefit from this service and ask for a maximum of 3 books every time. 

• Request can be made by filling out the “Inter Library Loans” form or sending e-mail or personally appealing to the respective librarian. 

• Members can forward their requests online if they open the online catalogue section over internet by means of their private sessions.

• The requester must provide all bibliographic records of the desired publication.

• This service is not rendered to students or external members of the library.

• Users who do not return books on time are obliged to comply with the rules set forth by the respective institution.

The following materials cannot be provided through inter library cooperation:

• Reference Sources (encyclopedia, dictionary, guide book, instruction manual, etc.)

• Books in the Reserved Collection

• Audio-Visual Materials (Video cassette, DVD, CD, CD-ROM)

• All issues and volumes of magazines

• Special collections

• Unique Works of Art (manuscripts, out-of-print books, etc.) 


Article Supply Service

The purpose of this service is to provide articles that are not present at Istanbul Kültür University Library by cooperating with other libraries and institutions.

• Articles requests can be submitted to information centers and ULAKBİM (Turkish Academic Network and Information Center) in homeland.

• All IKU academicians may benefit from this free-of-charge service.

• Academicians may ask for a maximum of 3 books every time. Articles are provided and forwarded to requesters in the form of photocopies or at electronic environment.

• Request can be made by filling out the “Article Request”  form or sending e-mail or personally appealing to the respective librarian.

• Members can forward their requests online if they open the online catalogue section over internet by means of their private sessions.

• The requester must provide all bibliographic records of the desired publication.

• Duration for providing requested publications is 2 weeks in average.


Filling out the Online Book/Article request form:

• You must first open a private session using your member no. and password in order to enter online article/book request form. 

• After the private session is opened, select “borrowing request” section which will open the request form.

• It is important for speed and quality of service that the title of article/book and name of its author, title of magazine, year of publication, and volume and issue numbers are written correctly and that articles are numbered if more than one article is going to be requested.

• Press the save button after writing down necessary information in sections to be filled out.

• The entry will be taken to the Inter Library Loans module and the user will be notified of the result via e-mail or phone.
 
Mail Warnings
E-mail warnings are sent to users to remind them of the date of return of the materials they received and to prevent any possible delays in the return of materials recalled by the library. Users begin to receive e-mail warnings 2 days prior to the date of return.
