Program Objectives


The purpose of the Architectural Design MArch (Non-Thesis) Programme is to raise analytical individuals and architects that reflect deeply on themselves and their profession in the complex structure of the contemporary world. 


         IKU Department of Architecture has started to accept students to the Architecture MArch  Programme beginning from 2001-2002 academic year.

  Beginning from 2004-2005 academic year, Department of Architecture has been divided into several programs which include also Architectural Design MArch  Programme.

  Renewal studies made in 2010-2011 academic year have been concluded and the new programme has been applied beginning from 2011-2012 fall term.


Qualification Awarded

        “MArch” degree in the field of Architectural Design is given to students who succeed in all lectures that take part in the education plan and have at least 120 ECTS credits.

Admission and Registration Requirements

         It is required to have a Bachelor degree for application to Architectural MArch (Non-Thesis)  Programme. Science Exam, English Proficiency Test and Oral Interview are done before the admission to the programme. They are evaluated as Science Exam 20%, English Proficiency Test 10%, Undergraduate Points Average 40% and Oral Interview 30%.   During the application, diploma, transcript, military situation document (for males), a copy of identity card, 2 photographs and registration fee receipt are taken. During the precise administration not the copy but the originals of these documents and the student contribution margin receipt are wanted.   Programme application date is declared by the university.

Double Major–Minor Programs

        Architectural Design MArch  Programme doesn’t include any double major or minor program.


       Architectural Design MArch  Programme doesn’t include any internship.

Grading Scheme

Students are granted one of following letter grades and/or symbols by instructor of the course for each academic year they are enrolled.



























G: Not sat for semester-end exam

P: Course continues

R: Repeated

E: Incomplete semester studies

T: Transfer

V: Withdrawal

Student who got one of A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C grades as success grade, shall be considered as being succeeded that course. Student who got one of C-, D+, D, D- grades for a course, shall be considered as being succeeded that course conditionally. In the event that student must repeat the semester in which he got these grades, student shall be considered as being failed these courses. Student who got FD and FF grades for any course shall be considered as failed that course. Student who attended but not succeeded the course is granted FD grade; student who didn’t fulfill the attendance condition is granted FF grade. Procedures and principles applicable to enrollment, education and examinations carried out at the level of bachelor’s degree and associate degree have been determined by Regulations of Istanbul KulturUniversity Associate Degree and Bachelor’s Degree Education.

Graduation Requirements

Students are required to fulfill 120 ECTS credits (25% elective courses, 75% compulsory courses). The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is shall be minimum 2.7 over 4.00 to be successful and to complete the Program.        

International Cooperations

ERASMUS is a European Union based program established to promote collaboration among the higher education institutions of European countries. It provides grants for joint projects and short term student and academic staff exchange programmes.  Students have the opportunity to study at a European Union institution and receive financial support during the academic exchange period (one or two terms/ 3 to 12 months). Students of Architecture department may qualify to be Erasmus students in one of the following partner universities:

Access to Further Studies

         Any student who completes MArch  Programme with success can apply to PhD Programmes of the Department of Architecture or lots of other departments. Students successful in ALES, ÜDS, science exam and oral interview, have a chance to be accepted to PhD education. 

Departmental Facilities

        Department of Architecture has a material studio, computer studio and material-concrete studio. 4 professors, 6 associate professor, 11 assistant professors are assigned in the Department of Architecture in 2017/2018 academic year.
