Program Objectives

PHD in Architecture is not only designed for specializing in a specific subject but also to attain an academic career with a research culture.Compulsory courses of the programme are for creating a mental research context. Elective courses are for the PHD candidate to improve himself or herself in the field he or she is interested in. PHD candidate is supported to specialize in his or her interest field in the architectural discipline context. Architecture PHD program offers students to do independent studies, comment on scientific events while explicating with a widely ranged point of view and determining the necessary steps for the new synthesis. Candidates who will fullfill all the requirements of the programme are expected either to innovate something, to develop a scientific method or to implement a pre-existing method on a new field.





Establishment

The Ph.D. program, which has been approved by YÖK, has started start accepting students in 2011.





Qualification Awarded

Students who have succesfully completed all the courses in the four year education plan and
accumulated a minimum of 240 ECTS, receive a Ph.D. degree in Architecture. 





Language of Instruction

Education language of Ph.D. Program in Architecture is Turkish and foreign language preparatory class is optional

Admission and Registration Requirements

 It is required to have a Bachelor degree and score higher than 55 quantitative points from Selection Examination for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies (ALES) for application to Architectural Ph.D. Programme. Science Exam, English Proficiency Test and Oral Interview are done before the admission to the programme. They are evaluated as ALES 50%, Science Exam 10%, English Proficiency Test 10%, Undergraduate Points Average 10% and Oral Interview 20%. During the application, ALES document which is taken in the last 2 years, diploma, transcript, military situation document (for males), a copy of identity card, 2 photographs and registration fee receipt are taken. During the precise administration not the copy but the originals of these documents and the student contribution margin receipt are wanted. Programme application date is declared by the university.

Student who got one of A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C grades as success grade, shall be considered as being succeeded that course. Student who got one of C-, D+, D, D- grades for a course, shall be considered as being succeeded that course conditionally. In the event that student must repeat the semester in which he got these grades, student shall be considered as being failed these courses. Student who got FD and FF grades for any course shall be considered as failed that course. Student who attended but not succeeded the course is granted FD grade; student who didn’t fulfill the attendance condition is granted FF grade. Procedures and principles applicable to enrollment, education and examinations carried out at the level of bachelor’s degree and associate degree have been determined by Regulations of Istanbul KulturUniversity Associate Degree and Bachelor’s Degree Education.







Graduation Requirements

Students are required to fulfill 240 ECTS credits (25% elective courses, 75% compulsory courses). The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is shall be minimum 3.0 over 4.00 to be successful and to complete the Program.
 





International Cooperations

ERASMUS is a European Union based program established to promote collaboration among the higher education institutions of European countries. It provides grants for joint projects and short term student and academic staff exchange programmes. Students have the opportunity to study at a European Union institution and receive financial support during the academic exchange period (one or two terms/ 3 to 12 months). Students of Architecture department may qualify to be Erasmus students in one of the following partner universities:

Departmental Facilities

Department of Architecture has a material studio, computer studio and material-concrete studio. 4 professors, 6 associate professor, 11 assistant professors are assigned in the Department of Architecture in 2017/2018 academic year.
