Law can be defined as a set of enforceable rules of social order. In this context, the main aim of law is, recognize to law students the legal rules which applied during a specific period and in society with taking into account the universal principles and practices of law. Legal problems encountered in practice can find a solution with establishing relationships between different legal systems and rules, in terms of application judicial decisions and legal practices. In this direction, reaching the level of the professional equipment, knowledge and competence of law students can create and interpret the existing rules of law. Regulation of social relations and settlement of disputes are expected by law students.
İKÜ Law Faculty, aims to educate students, competitive in national and international fields, aware of national interests, acquainted with the universal principles of law and prepares lecture programs for that purpose.
In all foundation universities, our Faculty is the first Faculty which authorized to execute a PhD programs by ‘’YÖK’’.
In 1999-2000 academic years, our Faculty starts with 118 law students to its academic life and in 2002-2003 our Faculty gave its first graduates. In 2003, our Faculty has reached to give doctoral education. In Law Faculty, our 800 students, studying law by a lot of distinguished academic staff. Our students also have a chance to take tutorials.
Our talented academic staff, also known in national and international Law fields, guiding our students to develop their knowledge and skills . Also our University gives various of scholarships to successful students.
Our Faculty’s most important aim is to educate, sophisticated, skillful, confident students, well-known in national and also in international fields with high professional ethics whom will be needed in the near future in Turkey.
TR Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Law was founded in the deanship of Professor Tayfun AKGÜNER in 1999. After the Professor Tayfun AKGÜNER’s deanship of our Faculty till 2004, Professor Atilla ALTOP was appointed to the deanship duty and continued his duty until the academic year of 2005-2006. Professor İlhan ULUSAN, took office in the academic year of 2005-2006, continued his duty until the end of the academic year of 2008-2009. Professor Bahri ÖZTÜRK was appointed dean delegate in the academic year of 2009-2010. After Assistant Professor Cem AKBIYIK’s deputy deanship since the academic year of 2004-2005, Associate Professor Hanife ÖZTÜRK was appointed to the deputy deanship duty in the academic year of 2007-2008. In the academic year of 2008-2009, Professor Durmuş TEZCAN was appointed other deputy dean and in the academic year 2010-2011. Assistant Professor Doctor Ömer KORKMAZ has been assigned as deputy dean responsible of student affairs in academic year 2010- 2011
Our Faculty, started on its academic life with its 118 undergraduate students in the academic year of 1999-2000, had its first graduates at the end of the academic year of 2002-2003. In 2003, our Faculty came to a position to have Ph.D. programme. In the building of Şirinevler Campus of our University, education continues with 833 students in the English Prep and Bachelor of Law departments.
Criminal Law Application and Research Center (CLARC) established within our University’s Rectorate under Regulation 27001 dated 18 September 2008 in order to make contributions for solution of issues regarding criminal law sciences through scientific methods with an interdisciplinary approach in national and international law fields, to enable Turkey to develop a cooperation in Criminal Law Sciences field with foreign countries and especially with European Union countries and in this context, to carry out discipline and application- oriented studies; has its operations in the building of Faculty of Law. Prof. Dr. Bahri ÖZTÜRK, Dean of Faculty of Law acts as director of the center and Prof. Dr. Durmuş TEZCAN as assistant manager.
Our faculty has the characteristic of being the first Faculty of Law entitled by Higher Education Institution to carry out doctoral program among Foundation Universities
Students who have successfully completed all courses included to four years education plan, having minimum 240 ECTS which consist of 180 ECTS required course and 60 ECTS elective course are granted Bachelor’s Degree in Law field.

Admission and Registration Requirements
200 students are admitted to Faculty of Law according to quota determined for Academic Year 2011- 2012 through Central Placement Examination carried out by Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). In Central Placement, candidates are placed to Faculty of Law by ÖSYM by taking their Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS) points, their preference regarding higher education programs, quota and conditions of these programs into consideration. Enrollment of students placed to Faculty of Law is carried out by Department of Student Affairs within the frame of schedule determined by ÖSYM.

Distribution of 200 students quota determined by ÖSYM for Academic Year 2011- 2012 is 120 for students with contribution, 20 for 25% scholarship students, 40 for 50% scholarship students and 20 for 100% scholarship students.
There isn’t a double major-minor programs opportunity on the faculty of law.
Vocational internships vary according to vocational field (attorney, judge, prosecutor) preferred by students following their graduation and there is no internship obligation during education period.
Students are granted one of following letter grades and/or symbols by instructor of the course for each academic year they are enrolled.
G: Not sat for semester-end exam
P: Course continues
E: Incomplete semester studies
Student who got one of A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C grades as success grade, shall be considered as being succeeded that course. Student who got one of C-, D+, D, D- grades for a course, shall be considered as being succeeded that course conditionally. In the event that student must repeat the semester in which he got these grades, student shall be considered as being failed these courses. Student who got FD and FF grades for any course shall be considered as failed that course. Student who attended but not succeeded the course is granted FD grade; student who didn’t fulfill the attendance condition is granted FF grade. Procedures and principles applicable to enrollment, education and examinations carried out at the level of bachelor’s degree and associate degree have been determined by Regulations of Istanbul KulturUniversity Associate Degree and Bachelor’s Degree Education.
Student should get minimum 2.00 grade point average over 4.00 to complete successfully all courses (total ECTS corresponds to 240 credits) included to the program.
Istanbul Kültür University Faculty of Law provides the opportunity for our students to gain experience at abroad by making agreements with foreign country universities within the frame of ERASMUS program. Our Faculty continues its activities on international scale by making student and instructor exchange through Erasmus program. As a result of our Erasmus activities which started in year 2004, cooperation is implemented today with some EU universities.

Occupational Profiles Of Graduates
Graduates of IKU Faculty of Law have wide knowledge to perform various professions easily in the society. They find opportunity to work especially in magistracy, prosecution, attorneyship, notary, law consultancy, occupations having technical quality as well as in administration in fields operating in mass communication (media) sector, banks, insurance companies, private sector and public sector, as inspector/ auditor in inspection boards and as external relations specialist on international scale.
Access to Further Studies
After completing their undergraduate degree, students who pass the examination and provide the necessary criteria, will be able to continue their graduate education ( master and PhD programs) in the Institute of Social Sciences in our University .
Our faculty which ended compulsory preparation class application organizes courses not only to teach English but also other foreign languages as well. For example, since two years, “German Language Courses” have been organized in our faculty by German and Austrian teachers. Our faculty’s optional foreign language teaching programs will continue increasingly. Within our University’s Faculty of Law, Introduction to German Law and German Legal Parlance courses are offered for students of Faculty of Law since the beginning of Academic Year 2007- 2008. General information on German Judicial System, legal issues and education, terminology and basic structures of German Law, meaning and writing of legal texts, legal studies on case studies are handled during these courses. Furthermore, during Introduction to German Law and German Legal Parlance courses organized for instructors, an introduction to various legal disciplines is made within the frame of German Jurisprudence and researches on recent developments are carried out. After giving some general information to attending students, practices are made regarding legal parlance by studying German legal texts.
Instructors considered as the best of their disciplines from German and Austrian Faculties of Law give lessons in our Faculty’s summer school, undergraduate program, master’s degree program and doctorial programs.
Our students may attend joint seminars that students coming from elite faculties of law of various universities of Turkey and Germany attend as well and especially Summer Academy organized in İzmir- Çeşme each year in September. Such meetings are also extremely beneficial for people of different nations to understand each other, to reduce or remove existing prejudices and in terms of advertisement of our country.
Our precious academic members well-known in National and International legal fields guide students to train them as lawyers having higher occupational ethics, knowledge and abilities. Furthermore, various scholarships are granted to our successful and researcher students.
