Program Objectives

Department of Architecture, which has a vision of becoming a contemporary, effective and examplary institution with national and international level of education and research, aims to educate civilized, contemporary, free, curious, creative, dynamic and couragous architects, who can compete in every environment and produce solutions for environmental problems in order to develop humanity, who can integrate their national identity with global values, and who are respectul for historical and environmental values, who can work for the benefit of the society, and respect ethical values, who are enriched with aesthetic values, and can follow and use the developing technology, and to contribute to the awareness and development of the society and to the improvement of the country by means of research, publications and practice, which have high scientific value.


Department of Architecture was founded in İstanbul Kültür University on July 15, 1997 according to Law numbered 4281, based on the decision of the Senate  on 11.12.1997, with meeting number 97/8 and decision number 7, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Okay EROSKAY, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.

Department of Architecture started education under the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture in 1998-1999 academic year. The department had been located in the main building at Şirinevler Campus in 1998, has been continuing education in Ataköy Campus since 2004-2005 academic year, with an increasing number of student capacity. The Faculty of Architecture has been founded due to the decision of Council of Ministers of Turkey, published in official gazette on August 23, 2014 and completed its establishment period in 2012. In 2012-2013 academic year, the first students to Department of Architecture (English) have been accepted.

Graduate education at Master level in Architecture Program has been continuing since 2002. The Ph.D. program, which has been approved by YÖK, also started accepting students in 2011. 

Qualification Awarded

Students who have succesfully completed all the courses in the four year education plan and 

accumulated a minimum of 240 ECTS, receive Bachelor of Architecture degree.

Language of Instruction

Education language of 'Architecture Program in Turkish' is Turkish and foreign language preparatory class is optional.

Admission and Registration Requirements

80 students are accepted to Department of Architecture as a result of the Central Placement Exam carried out by OSYM. In the Central Placement, the applicants are placed in Department of Architecture by ÖSYM according to their LYS grades, their preference related with the higher education programs, and the quota and conditions of these programs. The registration of students who are placed in Department of Architecture is realized by the Student Affairs Directorate within the framework of the calender determined by ÖSYM.

Double Major–Minor Programs

Succesful students at Department of Architecture can also be educated in the Department of Civil Engineering as a result of the evaluation of the applications made at certain periods of their education. Students, who succesfully complete the Double Major program and receive the right to the undergraduate degree of both departments, are given two separate Undergraduate diplomas.


In order for students at Department of Architecture in İstanbul Kültür University to gain the right for graduation, they have to complete a minimum of 40 days of internship, 20 days of which are in an office, and 20 days are at construction site.

Grading Scheme

Students are granted one of following letter grades and/or symbols by instructor of the course for each academic year they are enrolled.

R: Repeated

E: Incomplete semester studies

T: Transfer

V: Withdrawal

Student who got one of A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C grades as success grade, shall be considered as being succeeded that course. Student who got one of C-, D+, D, D- grades for a course, shall be considered as being succeeded that course conditionally. In the event that student must repeat the semester in which he got these grades, student shall be considered as being failed these courses. Student who got FD and FF grades for any course shall be considered as failed that course. Student who attended but not succeeded the course is granted FD grade; student who didn’t fulfill the attendance condition is granted FF grade. Procedures and principles applicable to enrollment, education and examinations carried out at the level of bachelor’s degree and associate degree have been determined by Regulations of Istanbul KulturUniversity Associate Degree and Bachelor’s Degree Education.

Graduation Requirements

The student must successfully complete all courses (equivalent of a total 240 ECTS) that take place in the four-year education plan. In order to complete all the courses in the program successfully, the student must have at least 2.00 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. In addition, each student must have completed 40 days compulsory internship.

International Cooperations

 ERASMUS is a European Union based program established to promote collaboration among the higher education institutions of European countries. It provides grants for joint projects and short term student and academic staff exchange programmes.  Students have the opportunity to study at a European Union institution and receive financial support during the academic exchange period (one or two terms/ 3 to 12 months). Students of Architecture department may qualify to be Erasmus students in one of the following partner universities:

Occupational Profiles Of Graduates

8% of the graduates work in governmental institutions as 'architect'. The ratio of the graduates, who work for construction companies is 35% and 18% of them are 'managers', and 82% have 'architect' positions. The ratio of our graduates, who works in Architectural Companies is 39%, which 29% them are 'company owners', 10% are 'managers' and 61% works under the title of 'architect'. 4% of the graduates works for building material supplier companies as 'company owners'. Approximately 10% of our graduates had been continuing their master education in IKU, ITU, Bilgi Universities and in universities abroad when the questionnaires were filled, and 10% of them had a research/teaching assistant position in universities. The ratio of our graduates in sectors, not related with architecture and construction, is 4%.

Access to Further Studies

Upon successful completion of the undergraduate program, candidates having acceptable scores in ALES exam and proficiency in English can go on to graduate programs.

Departmental Facilities

There are  design studios,  lecture rooms,  classrooms, four multi-purpose workshops (maquettes, ceramics, materials and basic arts), computer labs and material-concrete labs. During the 2016-2017 academic year; there are four professors, four associate professor, eleven assistant professors, one lecturer, ten research assistants; for full time lectures; there are one assistant professors and one lecturer for part-time lecturers; there are one professors, one associate professor, two assistanr professors, one lecturer from the other departments and faculties of the university;  and four professors, four associate professors, tree assistant professors, ten lecturers who work at other universities but teach at IKU as well have contributed to education and two maquette lab technician has helped the students.
