Istanbul Kültür University offers its students the opportunity to have academic and cultural experiences abroad within the framework of “International Exchange Programs”.
The most active exchange program that our university participates at the moment is LLP (Life-Long Learning Program) / Erasmus Program which is supported by the Commission of European Union.
What is Erasmus Program?
It is the sub-program which, at the level of higher education, organizes cooperation among the LLP programs which are amongst EU Education and Youth Programs. The purpose of the program is to improve the quality of higher education in Europe and to enhance the European dimension. This purpose can be summarized as presenting effective exercises in some European countries to the use of all Europe. Erasmus Program supports the abovementioned purposes by encouraging university exchange agreements among countries, organizing exchange of students and lecturers, providing academic recognition of the studies and degrees achieved in the participating countries, and supporting the development of transparency.
Erasmus Student and Lecturer Exchange Program
With Erasmus Exchange program our students can study at a university in a European Union country for 1 or 2 semesters in an academic year, and our lecturers spend 1 to 6 weeks of teaching under the same conditions. European commission is financially supporting the program to provide aid for the extra expenses that might be encountered by the individuals abroad.
Turkey is a member of the Union, and for Turkey it is possible to exchange students and lecturers with only the other member countries. Erasmus program in our university is applied in the best possible way.
The exchange of students and lecturers is carried out by the IKU-Erasmus Institution Coordination Office, which is in the body of European and International Relations Office. With their coordination, different departments of our university are sending students to associate universities and accepting students from those universities in compliance with mutual agreements.
IKU obtained the right to participate in Erasmus Program with the Erasmus University Proclamation in April 2004. Since September 2004, our university has given 158 students the opportunity to have this experience abroad and has welcome 102 international students.
The students sent abroad as Erasmus students came back to Turkey as academically and culturally more self confident and equipped people. In our university, the process of application to go abroad as an Erasmus student is as follows:
- Students apply to the Erasmus Department Coordination Office within the specified time period.
- The Erasmus Department Coordinator directs the students regarding their GPA and knowledge of foreign languages.
- The students fill in the application forms, which are among Erasmus Exchange Documents, in the web page of European and International Relations Office, and then they submit the documents to the Erasmus Department Coordinator.
- After the submission of all the applications, the students are given a foreign language test.
- After the test and interviews, all the applicants are ranked according to their suitability. Then the results are announced by the Erasmus Institution Coordinator.
- IKU European and International Relations Office inform the students about their responsibilities in the associate university, and visa and university applications before the travel.
